"The Good the Bad and the Sexy" - New Works by Billy Martinez @ the San Diego Art Dept

Remember this?

The mural looks pretty good in the late day...The faux shadows really make this pop as well!

Our next destination was just up Ray Street...

We thought we'd see if Indulge was open so I could use my 20% coupon that I've had since Spring Break...

Unfortunately, Indulge was closed. This poster was seen on its windows along with other businesses advertising this upcoming event.

As we walked back, we saw this big sign and some hubbub going on in what appeared to be an art gallery.

We thought we'd pop in to check it out.

The San Diego Art Department not only offers art classes to folks of all ages, but serves as a gallery...

Here's a pamplet I picked up. I remember seeing Billy Martinez's name before. We've taken TC to a few of his workshops at the Comic Con way back when it was easier to get into the #$%@ Con!

It turns out that last night was the opening night reception for Billy Martinez's exhibit, "The Good the Bad and the Sexy".

He is the owner of Neko Press and one of the art instructorrs for the Neko Press Art Studios. His current exhibit features panels from his "1000 Girls" series. He is trying to complete 1000 and has finished about 400 so far.

Bert liked the one with the pole dancer because you can see the Star Wars cantina characters there, including Greedo.

"Oota toota Solo?"

Here's that same wall but a few steps back. Each panel was selling for $300 but the smaller reprints were going for $30.

It was kind of neat running into this. They even had food in the back (hors d'oevres plus fruit) but since we already ate...Man, if we had known...just kidding. Both Billy Martinez and another artist, Dan Bois (also of Neko Press) were present and mingling with the guests. A fun and short diversion on a Friday night...

We had one more stop before going back home for the night...
