Better late than never I say.
On the last day of our spring vacation, we headed over to a quiet neighborhood in the NW quadrant of Portland that borders Forest Park.

(image is a screen shot from the movie, that's not my Volvo! )
Does this look familiar to any, uh Twilight fans out there?
It happens to be the house that "starred" as the Cullen home in 2008's vampire romance, "Twilight". Here's the Cullen house as it appears in the movie. The first glimpse starts at :10 and ends at :20, just so you know and won't feel compelled to watch the whole thing.
In the movie, it seems like the house is in the boonies and accessible only via a long and winding road. In reality, this ultramodern looking house is set up on a hill on a private driveway in a really nice neighborhood of older homes in Portland, OR. The house, also known as the Hoke residence, was actually built a year before "Twilight" was filmed, for a Nike executive (Nike's headquarters are in Beaverton, OR) and featured the work of Jeff Kovel, founder of Skylab Architecture.
It was our last day of vacation and I asked Bert if we could make a quick stop. We didn't have an opportunity to see it several years earlier (plus I didn't have the address back in 2009). I read on other fansites that it is a private residence and taking photos would be considered trespassing.
When we finally found the house, Bert parked on a sidestreet and waited in the car with TC while I trudged up the hill where I noticed construction going on.

I asked someone if I would be allowed to snap a few shots. The lady I spoke with (who wasn't the owner) got the lead foreman to come out to talk to me, where I asked permission to take a few photos. The guy seemed amused but not surprised. In fact, he said most people don't even ask permission. He agreed for me to take my pictures and was gracious enough to take a few of me with the house in the background as well.

OMG, Robert Pattinson stood here! Ha ha!

Looks like some renovations were going on...

The house has very clean lines and is quite spacious inside (as seen in magazine articles detailing the interior). There is over 4,000 square feet of living space and nearly 1,000 for the garage alone! That's bigger than some studio apartments! I love all the glass windows. They must have amazing views.

It was a quick five minutes but I'm glad that we actually made the detour to go here!
Below, a video of the home taken a few years ago by one of C's friends (C of Life on Manitoulin), J of the blog Thinking About. Her parents live in this neighborhood. The video was taken by her husband (his blog link below).
I actually saw his blog awhile back, not knowing he was the husband of J (who commented on one of Bert's old posts and found him through one of C's posts way back when). Anyhow, he had a lot of cool posts 80's music. His blog is: pykorry.com (Cockney slang for "By Golly"). The same video is also linked in his old blog post.

Up next, lunch and more exploration in the "Fifth Quadrant"!
