We thought we'd give Station Tavern a try, but that place was a total zoo!
It was fully packed with no place to sit...I was kind of disappointed because I really like their burgers and wanted Cy and her son to try it too.

We ended up eating across the street, at Sombrero Mexican food. This was a bit out of sheer desperation and also because there were no lines!

Empty when we got there and busy when we left.

The jamaica (hibiscus flower punch) that TC and I shared...

Cy's rolled tacos and her son's fries. Her son, by the way, was a trooper! For a four year old, being out in the evening and having to walk among crowds of people can be a little overwhelming.

TC's combo of rice/beans/chicken taco/chicken enchilada and my two tacos (pollo asado and calamari). Her combo was "ok" but not very flavorful in her opinion. As for mine, they were easily the worst tacos I've ever had. Well, the chicken was pretty bad. I only had a couple of bites before crying "uncle". The tortillas fell apart when holding them. Not a good sign. The calamari was slightly better, a few thick fried and breaded strips that was halfway decent sans tortilla and the chopped cabbage/tomato/onion filling.

Maybe this was an off day for them? Perhaps it caters more to the gringos? I guess I am used to getting way better Mexican fast food in Chula Vista. Like waaaaay better. But the positive thing was, we didn't have to wait and we didn't have to deal with crowds.
I know this isn't a food related item, but isn't this dress adorable? This was a lace dress at this upscale children's boutique called "So Childish" where Cy's son had his face painted. It was there that I bumped into a colleague of mine (the same one who gave me Jer's Handmade Chocolates and the Goldilock's gift basket) and his wife and their kids. Man, that dress was expensive, $48! Wut?

A cookie sample from Eclipse Chocolate Bar & Bistro - their samples were going quickly. Cookies and chopped up bits of their candy bars with fanciful flavor combinations...Good this was.

A bag of Oreo truffles for TC, bought from some teenagers hoping to raise money for anti-bullying. These were super sweet.

We also found the time to visit the Daily Scoop on Juniper, with ice cream from Niederfrank's, a local company based in National City.

TC's mango sorbet which she thought was all right, but a bit too "watery" for her liking. She felt that the mango flavor was not as intense as it is like at Oasis and Gelato Vero Caffe.

Cy was adventurous and got TWO scoops in a waffle cone - the Blueberry cheesecake on the bottom and Butterscotch Marble on the top.

As for me, I got the Blueberry Cheesecake in a cup. This was such a decadent flavor; it was so rich and creamy. Our ice cream was enjoyed standing up near The Grove store while listening and watching a music performance on the street.

Before the night was through, we made a quick stop at Cafe Madeleine so I could pick up a slice of cake (not made in house but provided via Opera Patisserie) and so Cy could get her caffeine fix.

We watched a performance in front of the cafe by Angelique, the Living Music Box doll...

Her performance was set to traditional music box music (not Enigma as you will see in the video after this), you know, the kind that sounds like an old fashioned ice cream truck or music box. It was pretty cool to watch...

Angelique's is played by performer Zoe Tantrum formerly wit the goth/punk/cabaret performers, The Tragic Tantrum (which has since disbanded) as well as London Below.
Here she is performing at the Seaport Village Spring Busker Festival last year. The song that's playing is "Sadeness Part 1" by Enigma:
Below, the lone slice of Keylime Cheesecake I got for Bert, which he enjoyed later that same evening...

TC and I earlier that evening...

Outfit deets: On TC - blue shirt and printed graphic tank top, used from Thrift Trader ($5 each/4 for $20), skinny jeans and black combat boots. On me - garnet lace front cardigan from Banana Republic, Escrima stick print t-shirt from Pinoy Apparel, my fave black men's belt from BR (ancient!) , dark taupe narrow legged Chinos from The Gap (4 years old). Bags - My Tokidoki Concerto Punk Print Graziosa messenger bag (hidden) and my Tokidoki for Sephora beach print tote.

Pyramid studded sneakers from Rocket Dog (3 years old) and pyramid studded bracelet (don't remember the store).
In all, a very fun night out with Cy and her son. This outing was quite rare for both me and TC since we normally don't go out at night. It was fun checking out all the different shops (mainly window shopping for me) and seeing and meeting some interesting folks that evening...

I love the South Park Walkabout! Mr. Tall and I went last year and had so much fun. We ate from the Miho Gastrotruck (on the sidewalk), and I had the best portobello mushroom burger ever.
