I love superlatives like this!
One time, way back in high school, a friend and I drove past the Tijuana Estuary (which is NOT in Tijuana) and explored the beach near the border. This was the late 80's and before the border fence was built. We went there so we could stand on a corner with one foot in Mexico and one foot in San Diego...
All along Calornia, you may have noticed these bells marked with "El Camino Real" (The Royal Highway). These serve as markers for the historic 600 mile trail in which missions, presidios, and pueblas were established by Spanish missionaries.
A new hotel is being constructed from the former Seacoast Inn site, which was demolished a couple of years ago. This will be a new luxury boutique hotel from the Marriott. Every room is guaranteed a view of the Pacific Ocean and rates will be $189 and up once it's opens later this year.

Hardly any surfers out due to the sewage spill...
Lots of folks were out there fishing, many of them Filipino(we heard bits and pieces of Tagalog as we passed by)...
Although you can't see it, there was a sewage spill originating from TJ that morning. Ugh! Despite that, the awesome weather and pretty views made us quite happy to be San Diegans.
