I'd never been to that particlar spot before so Cathy offered to show this place to me...
which was the Torrey Pines Gliderport.

Parking is free but on a dirt lot.

According to their brochure, the TPG is a historic flight park which has been in use since 1928. People go here to paraglide, hang glide, and fly their expensive remote control toys.

The gliderport is located on top of the bluffs of La Jolla, which also overlook Black's Beach, San Diego's only NEKKID beach, although it's not really teeming with hot, buff people, but more old and wrinkly dudes. Sorry, no thanks. I will not take a peek.
As you go up the hill, you will approach an area with chairs for the viewers, as well as the onsite eatery, the Cliff Hanger Cafe.

The views were spectacular here...

You can learn to fly tanden with a certified instructor in a paraglider ($150) or hang glider ($200) for a 20-30 minute flight. We didn't see anyone doing it that day though. I would be way too chicken to do either option.

More of those million dollar views...

The rules and regulations sign from afar...

Viewing and picnic spots...

The sand area below is connected to a trail that leads down to Black's Beach. Avert your eyes children!

You can't see it, but there were signs that said, "Unstable cliffs".

There was a chasm or ravine which looked quite formidable. Both of us were too wary of even going hear that sandy area.

Yikes!

More of those signs...

As awesome as the views would have been overlooking the edge, I didn' want to risk slipping and dashing myself to bits on the beach below. Yes, I'm totally pessimistic, eh.

In the distance, you can see the silhouette of downtown La Jolla.

Around the corner was the Cafe...

"Best Sandwich with a View" - can't argue about the view part!

You can see their menu online here.

It would be cool to come back here again and enjoy a picnic with Bert and TC.

Here's a guy who brought a remote control glider...

A painted utility box on the corner of Torrey Pines Road and Genesee.

I'm glad I got to check this place out with Cathy. The weather was awesome, the skies mostly clear, and the company was great!

My first week of vacation was pretty much over. The next week would be filled with activities and lunch adventures with TC and KD's daughter...

The food here used to be just passable and the grill not operating (so only cold sandwiches). But haven't checked in a while if they improved any. Seemed like they were grilling again last time I visited.
Haha, "passable". hopefully that cafe place improved.
It seems like more fun to bring in food, like bentos from mitsuwa or nijiya or cold fried chicken...
I hadn't ben here in so long. It was good to see the unstable cliffs were still there. I'll try a sandwich here soon; there were plenty of people who were having lunch. Thanks for a diversion of an afternoon, both of you.
hi cathy - thanks for being my guide and for keeping me safe from the unstable cliffs!
