South Park Walkabout 2013 - The Sights

Last weekend, TC and I had the pleasure of attending the South Park Walkabout with Cy and her son...

Neither of us had been to this event before so we thought it would be fun to check it out...

When I had brunch with Darlene and Cy at Eclipse earlier this month, we picked up the flyers at one of the shops on Fern St. Cy also took a lot of photos and rather than show the same ones she did, you can check out her post, which is linked at the end of this one.  Although we arrived earlier than the 6 pm start time, street parking was pretty much hosed so we parked in the newly parking partitioned Gala Foods lot which was $5 for up to 6 hours. That was quite convenient!

Several of the stores were offering cookies and wine. Yeah, nothing tastes better with Two Buck Chuck than PB cookies! In this case, the store was Bad Madge, one of my favorites to browse around for cool vintage finds.




















I just had the wine. TC was horrified by this fox stole (made up for THREE foxes). Try wrapping that around your neck!

"Spill the wine...dig that girl..."

"Kiss and Make Up", no doubt a scholarly book of great magnitude by the esteemed Mr. Gene Simmons of Kiss.

These double sided coasters made up of repurposed LP 's was quite cool.

As were these recycled album cover bookmarks. These were a few that we recognized quite easily. See if you can correctly identify the two that are shown.

Lots of folks were out that evening, many in Western garb...

Used boots for sale at the Make Good store were in abundance. There was even a wild purple pair.

Interesting tablescape - doll in  a bell jar anyone? Alligator magnifying glass? I was digging the GnR and Ramones onesies. If they only had those when TC was a baby...


When I saw this sticker and graffiti covered box, my eyes went immediately to the UBE sticker. Lovers of the Filipino purple yam perhaps? An acronym for something else?

The Yarn Bomber was here...

A yarn covered tree in front of streetwear store, Graphiti Beach...it joins a yarn covered surfboard, a bike rack and iron  grill posts...

Later on that evening, an unusual art installation next to a bar. Pacman rendered in masking tape and a variety of creepy dolls that I found fascinating...

Upon closer inspection...

As we were looking at the piece, this random older man came up to us and likened it to a classic "To Serve Man" episode from "The Twilight Zone".

He seemed to relish telling us the main plot of the episode of "To Serve Man...".  "That book isn't about helping the humans...it's a COOKBOOK!" the man recounted with laughter!!

This episode was also spoofed by The  Simpsons, in "Tree House of Horror" (1990), called "Hungry are the Damned". It involves the aliens Kang and Kodos and a book titled, "How to Cook Humans", but the full title is later revealed to be "How to Cook for Forty Humans"!

Aah, all the pop culture that swirls around waiting to emerge during times like this...

I wonder who thought up this twisted installation?! I love it!

Here are the album cover images in their entirety, although with "Synchronicity", there are 36 versions of the album cover with the photos and stripes appearing in different order. This was the Police's 5th and last studio release in 1983 and remains one of my favorite albums (their second, "Regatta de Blanc" is my favorite Police album):
