Blind Lady Ale House

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of being in the company of one of my very best friends, as well as music and trivia freak extraordinaire, TORC...

My plan was this, have lunch AND dessert AND check out an art show all on Adams Avenue...

Estamos listos?

Now during my previous haunts on Adams Avenue, I've always noticed this place, Blind Lady Ale House, which shall be referred to as BLAH (for the sake of brevity). Of course, I remembered reading about it's opening three years ago. Every hipster had their panties in a bunch about this place. Buzz words again. Local. Sustainable. Organic. Vegan. Plus craft beers.

It was about time to check it out. As luck would have it, just the week before, BLAH began serving lunch on the weekdays, beginning at 11:30 a.m., so that was great for us!  When you walk in, it is quite airy and industrial. Lots of seating. Lots of wood. You order your meal at the counter. If you are so inclined, you would order your (alcoholic) drinks in a separate line. No beer for us today, although I may just bring Bert here in the future so we can try some of their dark beers!

TORC and I decided on one of the specials - the Summer Squash pizza ($16.50)...

along with  the House Chorizo pizza  ($14) and a mixed greens salad ($5)

TC's kid-sized lemonade ($1.50) and TORC's lemonade ($2.50). Why does TC's look more yellow? I just had water (which is tap only and comes with no ice, bummer).

A quick glance at the menu shows that this place isn't that cheap, but with quality comes the higher price. Or so they say.  I don't think I could eat here on a daily basis with those prices unless I made tons of bank.

I noticed that our salad had a 'home', Crows Pass (a farm I presume). I'd asked for the dressing on the side; it happened to be a sherry vinaigrette with chopped shallots. Very nice, fresh, and light but very skimpy. Loved the croutons! I think the salad might have tasted better with some sort of sliced fruit  to give it more of a sweetness, but that's just me.

The first pizza to come out was the Chorizo. What we liked about this was the flavor of the housemade Chorizo sausage; it was so flavorful and meaty. The sauce was not heavy and the toppings included the Mexican herb epazote (that's an ingredient you don't see too often), poblano chiles, and cheese. The crust was pretty good but the rest of the pizza crust was soaked by the topping. Put it this way, you can't pick up a slice with your hands and eat this easily. It will flop down and the toppings will slide off ,resulting in an ugly mess (not that it happened, because it didn't).

Here's another look at that tasty chorizo...

Next up was the Summer Squash pizza. I was excited to try this because I was thinking of the summer squash pizza we had in Portland at Lips (I still haven't posted that by the way). We liked our two tiered pizza holder so we could have more table space. The look of this pizza was stunning...

Fresh torn and fragrant basil, topped with a thin layer of tomato sauce, goat cheese (the ONLY thing I didn't like about this pizza), and two types of squash, baby green and yellow.

Oh, so cute these baby squashes are!

Below, a photo that TC took of a wooden post. She liked the pattern of the wood and saw the profile of a "face" in it. Can you see it?

The atmosphere was pretty laid back. It wasn't crowded at all. Very hipstery.  We had a nice table by the window and enjoyed our lunch in the natural light. As for the service, all they do is bring your food to you. You get your own napkins, utensils, and such. The pizzas were filling and delicious but pricey.  If I weren't driving,  I would have tried some beer! They had some imperial stouts I was interested in. But that will have to be for a future visit with Bert...

Who else ate at Blind Lady Ale House?

I've driven by this place a bunch but have never been here. Looks like they have some interesting and different pizza toppings - the squash pizza sounds really good! The chorizo also looks pretty tasty - I like that they make it in house.

In the wood, I saw a profile of what looked like Snoopy to me!

It might be worth a look-see. Pizza toppings are good but the bottom crust too soggy. Pricy but what do you expect from an upscale place, eh. I would have liked that squash pizza so much better if they used a diff't cheese other than goat.

TC thought the face looked like Frida Kahlo but I can also see the 'Snoopy' in there! Now what does this all mean? ha ha!
