Porky's, the restaurant not the nasty 80's flick

Last month Bert and I were doing errands in between several events. His mother's 80th birthday was coming up and we wanted to check out this place for their lechon...

I found the name amusing, Porky's. As in Pig. NOT As in gross horny 80's sexploitation flick:

Those of you over 40 should get this reference. The rest of you, the trailer is posted at the end...

So, Porky's is in the same shopping center as Seafood City (National City location)....

Have fun parking in this hell house of a parking lot...

Someone recommended this place to Bert for their Lechon. We also wanted to try some of their food because we were wavering between this place and Jochi's Resto Grill (which is near the OTHER, or MY Seafood City down in Chula Vista)...

The Cebu style lechon, according to the lady working there, incorporates the use of lemon grass, pepper and other aromatics underneath the skin. We chose the regular one this time but Cebu style did sound good.

Their catering menu:

Steam tray offerings - all of which I wanted, haha but didn't get. All of my favorites were here like squid adobo, longanisa, short ribs, pinakbet and fried fish to name a few.

You can tell the owners or employees have kids by the toys and playpen that was there.

Our sampler - lechon (on the house, which was nice), sinigang (Philippine sour soup, which normally comes with an order), Jackfruit and pork with bagoong, and pork menudo.

The lechon skin was so crisp and the meat so moist. It tasted even better with the liver sauce.

On a whim, we ordered some Shanghai lumpia and really liked their version. Very thin and crisp and packed inside. We ultimately ordered lumpia from here instead of Jochi's since they had a better deal as well.

The lady saw me looking at their fried pulutan (snacks), the chicken skin, dilis (mini fish) and bulaklak (pork ruffle fat). When I told her I love fried chicken skin, she gave me a free piece! Score!

It could have used some seasoning but it was fresh out of the fryer and was so crispy!  I liked the pork and jackfruit more than Bert. He is not a fan of bagoong (salted and fermented shrimp fry). We both liked the pork menudo but enjoyed the lumpia the most.

Porky's Trailer:

Unlike the food at Porky's, the movie SUCKED!

At least we know now that their lechon is pretty damn good! It was $260 for a 50 lb porker. There was a $15 delivery charge, so $275. For the actual party, the lechon was cut up by a Czechoslovakian woman who really knew her way with the knife. It turns out that her husband is Filipino and she was quite familiar with "our" food. Very cool indeed.

I think we'll stop here on our next Seafood City shopping trip; everything looks so fresh.

It's worth a stop Cathy. The steam tray tables had all of my favorites, although they probably aren't as good as my mom's versions. Still, if ya don't want to cook...then there you go. Plus, FRIED CHICKEN SKINZ. AND BULAKLAK!
