Return to Cream Pan

Since Tustin was on our way up, I thought it would be good to squeeze in this visit...

I wanted Cathy to try one of their specialities here and she was quite amenable to make a stop here on our way up to Pasadena...

Easter Earthquake!

Like last month's earthquake, I was alone in the house reading stories on the web. At 3:40 pm, I felt a low rumble and heard the windows rattle a tiny bit. I paused, then waited. More rumbling. I know you're supposed to go under a table or desk or something in Earthquake 101, but I wanted to get out of the house.

I opened the back door patio and  went out into our backyard where I could hear the neighbors' kids playing in their pool and our next door neighbor and his family grilling out in the back. I literally saw the house sway slowly from side to side and felt the earth ROLL beneath my sock clad feet. It was the wierdest feeling. I had to get out of our house. I ended up taking off earlier than I planned to my mom's.

Bert's experience:
Bert and TC were at a local mall after having cleaned up Bert's dad's cemetery marker earlier in the afternoon. They'd gone with Bert's mom and brother. They wanted to kill time at the mall before heading to my parent's house for Easter dinner. They were on the top floor heading towards the Skecher's store when they saw racks of shoes shaking as well as signs throughout the mall. They decided to head back. They saw some people running at full speed out of the mall, as well as other people who were screaming and panicking. If you ask me, that's a little too extreme. It's not like the mall was collapsing or anything. TC told me she saw a mall employee help scoop up a woman's young children and usher her out of an exit. I'm pretty sure that Bert and TC were calm, cool, and collecting while getting out of there.  It's not in them to "panick" and "scream". On his way back to the car, Bert noticed cracks on several tiles of the of the upstairs walkways!

At my mom's house, my nephews and I swapped our earthquake stories while I waited for Bert and TC to come over. On my parent's knick knack shelf, framed photos of my wedding, my bro and sis and the grandkids had already up fallen and were broken. The nephews and I ended up watching the news on CNN and learned that the earthquake was a 7.2 (upgraded from 6.9) whose epicentre  was in Mexicali, BC. We felt several aftershocks and inside, although I knew that things would be okay, my nerves were a little on edge from feeling the earthquake.

I've been a So Cal resident for the majority of my life and I've experienced a lot of little tiny earthquakes. Hell, I was once on an acupuncture table a couple of years ago during an earthquake and I figured it was construction going on!   Well, this one was one of the longest I've ever felt. Maybe close to a minute? I'm really glad that it wasn't worse. Reports on the news indicated that the earthquakewas 20 miles deep in the Earth and therefore the Earth absorbed most of the damage.

When we returned home, we noticed a few things that were askew like picture frames and the Easter themed Pez on our TV shelf which had toppled down. My cd's also got jumbled in the media cabinet. Other than that, we're pretty happy  that our house (and the rest of San Diego) was pretty much unscathed.

More on today's 7.2 Baja quake here and here.

Oh and um, Easter dinner was this:
Honey Baked Ham
Beef teriyaki bbq
Catfish with Filipino vegetables
Stir fried broccoli and carrots
