which was shrouded by dark smoke clouds...

We weren't sure what to expect at Rice Thai,

but if Jack the motel clerk liked it, then we were willing to give it a go...

We parked for free up near City Hall and walked a few blocks down to explore.

We noticed the British import shop across the street and wanted to check it out...

Serra Cross Park

The motel we stayed at was a vintage hotel. Not fancy, but good enough for the night. The guy working there was really helping in giving us recommendations on where to see some cool sights and where to dine.  We thought we would check out the one of the highest points in Ventura...

We made our way up the hill, past City Hall and near Father Serra's statue...

Grant Park, which includes the Botanical Gardens also has another park, Serra Cross, known for its spectacular views...

Hugo's Restaurant

Over on Casitas Pass Road, one of the main streets, is Shepard Place Shops.

There are a variety of retail shops and businesses here and also across the street.

Our lunch spot for this day would be the one in the corner, Hugo's...

Robitaille's Fine Candies + return to Carpinteria State Beach

Earlier we were curious about Robitaille's Fine Candies...

Sadly, it was closed. Several young boys on skateboards were also bummed out. We ended up coming a little later after having had pastries across the street at Reynaldo's Bakery.

Every town has to have a candy shop and Carpinteria was no exception...

As we walked along Linden Avenue, we passed by many mom and pop shops and eateries.

Across the street was the local Mexican panaderia, Reynaldo's Bakery.

We'd already eaten breakfast, but walked inside anyways...
