We missed our daughter TC who would be returning to San Diego later that afternoon.  We sure wished she was with us...

Located on Historic Route 66, the restaurant is also a prime spot to view the tail end of the Tournament of Roses Parade...

Zankou Chicken, Pasadena

While looking for parking for our dinner destination...

I noticed Afters near an alley slash parking lot.  Known for their "milky buns" (ice cream donut sandwiches but without a hole).  We ended up parking on the street, near the restaurant...

In front of the Pizza Man, a pizza joint complete with a mustachioed and soul patched hipster man logo...

The hills were shrouded by low clouds this morning...

The roads not raging rivers as the night before...

Seed Bakery

Not too far away was another bakery I looked up on google maps...

They are known for using ancient grains in their bread and milling their own flour...

Even during our mini vacation we woke up early...

so we could get to the breakfast place we had in mind and not deal with crowds...

We made it through the rain...to Pasadena - Pho Banh Mi Che Cali, Cafe 86 and Copa Vida

The weather when we left San Diego was relatively decent, albeit cloudy with an impending storm.

It wasn't until later in the afternoon that the rain started barreling in...

Under the smoky skies, we headed off to our next stop, the Pasadena Farmer's Market...

This weekend Cathy and I made the trip up to Pasadena..

during the wee hours of the morning and also during the same weekend as the Sand Fire in Santa Clarita. [Update: a week later, the fire burned over 39,000 acres and is 95% contained]

Hence, the long streaks of smoky clouds...As we got closer to Los Angeles, we could see the fire's effects even more...

It's been a year since we were last at Cophenhagen, a bakery serving real Danish pastries...

they should win an award for their stylish storefront. It was still early in the morning with many fresh pastries to choose from...

This a rather truncated weekend trip...

We left early Pasadena early that morning so that TC and her friends would be able to make it to the concert later that afternoon...

Even though we could have walked here from our hotel,

we ended up driving. I'm not a fan of walking around an unfamiliar area at night, as safe as it could seem.  It was the beginning of the Lenten season and we chose this place for their seafood offering...
