Hard 8

More of Bert's food adventures in the Lone Star State:
(comments in yellow by CC)
Dinner for tonight was recommended by my classmate's co-worker: The Hard Eight Pit BBQ in the city of Coppell. Their slogan, "Always bet the Hard Eight".

View from the parking lot. Grill and meat stuff on the left, entrance on the right.

Gotta love a place that has a "First Timers Guide".

Reminds me of Knotts Berry Farm. (all country'ish and shit)

To get to the grill for your meat, you have to follow a twisting line like an amusement park.

Not the clearest shot (sorry) but just to show an idea of what meats were available.

The door to the dining area.

Check out the outdoor skillet. That's a lot of food if you have to mix it with a shovel. (nice!)

The coal and (I think) the smokers. I forgot what my classmate said they were.

A view of the "menu".

That's quite a bit of meat, eh? Some brisket and a pork chop should fill me up. My classmates wanted ribs.

As you enter the dining area, you have side choices: potato salad, rice, salad in a container, then further down a refrigerator of desserts.

(That's a lot of meat there! I already feel my arteries hardening...)

Apple cobbler, beef ribs, potato salad, and chopped brisket. This classmate's friend recommended this place. However, the ribs weren't what this classmate was envisioning. Not much flavor. She had to add BBQ sauce herself from the squeeze bottle on the table. Not really what she was looking for.

Ribs, sliced brisket, spicy sausage and mac and cheese. This classmate said the m/c wasn't good. The sausage wasn't really "SPICY" but it did have a slight kick to it. He finished the ribs and brisket but left a few sausage slices.

The edges of the pork chop were tasty (because of the fat, of course). Toward the bone however... it got a little tough.(heh heh, he said "Bone")

The sign says it all.

I would have liked to have taken a picture when this pot is full. Now THAT would have been a lot of beans!

The open (but covered) outdoor dining.

A cup of the beans. Not bad. There were jalapeno peppers in there somewhere.

Can't be a Texas BBQ place without one of these.

Lots of wood. Stuffed animals in different places.

Another mounted deer head.

When Bert told me this place was in Coppell, Texas, I kind of got excited because I immediately thought of Bernie Koppell, which unfortunately is spelled with a "K" not a "C". I SO wanted to post a picture of the doctor from the Love Boat. Not that Bernie Koppell excites me, but just thinking of the connection and the funny picture I could post but am not posting because Coppell, Texas is spelled with a "C" when it should be with a "K" so I can at least throw in one pop culture reference. Dammit.  You know the Doctor was getting it on with Julie and if he was feeling adventurous, Isaac on the side.
