which is my convoluted way of tying it into this post since this eater is called "All American". It's located in Southland Plaza strip mall in the nebulous area of San Diego before it turns into IB.
You can consider this a guest post of sorts. Well, more of pix taken by Bert and text somewhat written with his input and recollections of his past lunches.
Instead of All American Burger, it's called All American Sandwiches N Pizza. Close enough.
The Plaza Special
The ingredients are listed above (see #16). He got this because it was recommended by the worker. It was sure jam packed with ingredients. You can't go wrong with four types of meats, heh heh.
Bert got this pulled pork sandwich from the Day of the Dead Festival at Southwestern College last fall.
BBQ pulled pork sandwich. He didn't get a chance to meet the owner himself (who seems to be quite the character, after having watched his videos and read his text on his website)...
Bert rememers this as being a sandwich you could not pick up but instead, needed to use a fork. It was a bit on the messy side.
Another time, Bert had a weekend lunch with his former co-workers, most of whom were laid off back in 2008 but now have other jobs elsewhere. Karl Strauss used to be their "go-to" lunch spot for their work gatherings since it was just down the street from the company's old offices.
Bert had some sort of burger with mushrooms and jack cheese. Nothing terribly exciting, but yeah, I'd eat that.
Another lunch were fish tacos from the Mariscos Gonzalez taco truck down in Otay Mesa.
He said that the truck is pretty busy during lunch time but service is good and the salsas/condiments are plentiful.
Last month Bert was solo doing errands and thought he'd pick up a quick bite to eat over at Felix BBQ. For there was a traffic jam nearby so in order to avoid it, he turned into a random strip mall which had this new'ish bbq place (three months old according to that four lettered site), The Buffalo Spot.
Their specialties are wings and fries.

Bert's Buffalo chicken wrap (which was actually one of their healthier items). It was a pretty big portion and the other half was saved for later. Fries were an option but in retrospect, Bert felt he probably should have gone with those instead of breadsticks. He said the wrap was just okay but if he ever goes again, he will get their wings.
These are just some of the uh, healthy lunches my husband has had or at least has cared to save photos of for me.

Ha ha, this scene never gets old!Obsequious Dennis Taylor. The asshole customer. Nicolas Cage as one of the workers in the background (he is credited as Nicolas Coppola in this movie; his very first role). Did you notice the graffiti on the mirror about the uh, female body parts? Yeah, well those words are changed or obscured for the TV version!
I'm sure Bert has more lunch adventures up his sleeve. Sometimes his work takes him out of the office and into Otay Mesa and San Ysidro.
