decided to have lunch at a local Middle Eastern place a few minutes away....
I had a few coupons for Lakeside and this place was one of them. It was a first for all of us. This being Lakeside and inland, it was pretty hot out here (high 80's, maybe even low 90's). We chose to sit inside.
The restaurant was pretty bare bones inside. The tables inside had colorful woven placements, but the seats and tables themselves had a grimy feel. The window sills were also kind of dirty. Hmmm...how would this be I thought.
There was an older gentleman and a younger man working in the kitchen. The other customers were sitting outside and they got their food a good fifteen minutes after we sat down.

Sadly, it took what seemed like a really long time, to get our food. I'd say it was half an hour. I was expecting at least just ten to fifteen minutes.
TC chose the Vegeterian entree - the Falafel plate while we ordered the Meatballs (Kofta). Both came with basmati rice, salad, a wedge of pita (which was horribly hard) and a mount of a different type of rice topped with tzatziki sauce. Despite the longass wait and the not so fresh pita bread, the food itself was pretty tasty. The older man came out later to check on us and told us about the differences between the rice served.
Bert and I really liked our meatball plate which had a lovely garlic, ginger, onion and tomato based sauce. The meatballs themselves were on the smaller side but were very tender and flavorful.
The falafels were tender and not grossly overfried and tasteless pucks of nothing. These were made from garbanzo and mung beans and had a nice texture, which TC enjoyed.
The service was slow despite it not being crowded and the eatery could have been cleaner. The owner was really nice and his food was delicious. I'm wondering if this place gets busy or crowded at night or something.

We weren't done quite yet with our visit in Lakeside. Mary's Donuts was having their grand opening today (thanks to Cathy for the tip) so we thought we would check that out before going home...
