After a good night's sleep, we met up with Uncle (C's father) in the kitchen who whipped up some breakfast with a brand of corned beef that is now one of my favorites...
He told me that he stocks up on these cans when they go to the Asian stores in Toronto or Montreal. I've found the Palm brand here as well, at Seafood City where sometimes the cans go on sale for $3.99 each. I've seen them as high as $5.99 at the smaller mom and pop stores. What Uncle likes about this corned beef is that the meat are actual chunks rather than chopped up and then formed into the can. The flavor shown above had peppers in it so it had a slight kick. There are different flavors but I like the plain one the best.
He made a torta for breakfast which was delicious - just eggs and corned beef goodness.

C wanted to take us out after breakfast to do some last minute shopping and possibly take the girls to the beach as a last "hurrah" for our trip.
We made a run to Foodland in Mindemoya (we'd gone there early on in our trip and one of C's friends thought we were there to study English, what! Ha ha!). This grocery store is one of the biggest and is located in the middle of the Island.
I believe these baking chips were by Hershey. Chipits are the #1 selling baking chip in Canada.

I don't remember buying any for myself or as gifts.
This is a brand I hadn't seen before. C told me this was popular here, Dr. Oatker (a German brand) that makes cake mixes, baking items, pudding and more.

Amazingly enough, I didn't go too crazy at Foodland since I already bought up a bunch of ketchup flavored Pringles and other kinds of candies earlier that week. I made most of my snack/souvenir purchases at Walmart the day before.
Nearby Foodland was Mum's which we also visited previously (link at end of post). My goal was to get a Canadian favorite, butter tarts...

and the bakery did not disappoint. I took home half a dozen of these bad boys. These were much much better than the pre-made ones at the store.

These were pretty damn big. I was able to put them in some plasticware so they wouldn't get smashed in the suitcase. I remember freezing these and giving a few out as gifts.

How I miss these butter tarts! I need to make them for myself. The closest I came to making these was when I made pecan tarts. Not quite the same, but reminiscent of the tarts but without the gooeyness that makes the butter tart so special. Of course, I plan to cheat using Trader Joe's pie crust!

The day was a bit dreary but the girls still wanted to try going to the beach in Providence Bay.
Previous visit to Mum's:
June 2012 (but posted in August)
Before that though, C insisted we go to her favorite chocolate place on the island in neighboring Kagawong...
