Return to the Manitoulin Chocolate Works +Boo Bah Lou Candy Cabin

One thing about Manitoulin Island is that it's very peaceful and quiet out here...

The island is pretty much unspoiled by commercialism and "big box" stores, malls, high rise buildings, and fast food joints. It's such a different way of life from life in the 'burbs in SD.

C thought one last visit to her favorite chocolate place in Kagawong would be nice before we left...

so here we were once again at the Manitoulin Chocolate Works, a chocolate factory and store just a few steps away from Mudge Bay. A sign we saw on the way in proclaimed Kagawong, "Ontario's Prettiest Village"...

I didn't take any photos inside but did buy a few candies as gifts to give to friends. My previous visit from several years back is linked at the end of this post.

This time we did not want to skip out on the other candy place next door, Boo Bah Lou...

TC and LO had a blast looking at all of the vintage candies inside. I didn't think they still made these un-PC candy cigarettes!

I had a nice time talking to the owner. He was pleased to know that we were visiting from California. That always seemed to be a point of interest, being from Cali, haha.

When C saw these, she went crazy and said I absolutely had to try one because they were her favorite candy growing up, these maple candy filled cones.

Apparently these were a very popular and nostalgic candy for our friends up North.

Bert thought it would be fun to try this bacon flavored soda. With C guiding my purchases, I bought this "toffee sponge" candy (it's like honeycomb crumble), one of the maple cones and a bacon candy necklace (which I bought either for TC or gave as a gift). Like the maple cone, the toffee sponge was also one of her childhood favorites that I HAD to try.

Well here goes...

The maple candy inside was sweet and had a bit of a chew. It was a nice little sweet and not too overwhelming. I gotta say, they really do like their maple here. At least for me, the maple flavored Brachs candies that we would get when trick or treating would always be put aside and forgotten. Maple candy tasted "right" in Canada, if that makes any sense.

"Thanks for visiting Kagawong..."

These were the candies that TC bought from Booh Bah Lou...a bunch of sour stuff!

My teeth are too sensitive and can't handle all that citric acid in those super sour candies.

TC also bought these blue raspberry chewy puffy bon bon things for her and LO to share.

More stuff from the Manitoulin Chocolate Works - a chocolate covered marshmallow on a stick, butter cashew toffee (OMG, this was so good!), and a "bear claw".

Candy galore!

It's kind of cool seeing their photos because we also went to the same places during our visit!

Previous visit to the Manitoulin Chocolate Works:
June 2010 (but posted in October)

I had to throw in a few music videos by Canadian bands/musicians. For you older folks out there, recognize this classic from April Wine?

Man, I almost forgot about April Wine (I like "She's a Roller" much better though)...

Here's  "recent" and by recent, I mean 1985! "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart!

I remember asking a friend to draw him for me in high school (for the record, he did, along with an awesome painting of Billy Idol)!

The next stop was lunch at new chip shop in Providence Bay...
