Return to Opera Cafe

KD's choice for dessert was the well chosen Opera Cafe...

which we were trying to haul ass  to get  before they closed at 2 pm...

In retrospect, it was probably a good thing we got there half  an hour before they closed!

Although their dessert case was pretty low on the individual desserts, I did see a sign...

The assortments were going for $5 instead of $7.

To make the deal even sweeter, the girl at the counter said if we bought two of the $5 assortments, we would get another one free! So we did just that along with a slice of the cafe's namesake pastry, the Opera cake.

I asked  the worker if the assortments were a day old, hence the reduced price, she replied, "Oh no, these were made today. We are trying to get rid of them because we are closed on Sundays".  Aaah, okay. So no day olds. Good.

Our drinks - TORC's pomegranate soda, KD's coffee and my iced mocha (I'm so boring when it comes to coffee drinks):

We liked the cup and KD likes "action shots".

Our assortments included two types of Exotic (two pieces were different), one chocolate assortment and one slice of the Opera cake.

This assortment included: Tiramisu (which isn't really exotic to me so I wonder why it was included), Elderberry, passionfruit, cheesecake with a fruit jelly square and pistachio.

The other exotic assortment had two different pieces - the one that looked like a red grape was elderberry while the one in the right corner was a lemon cheesecake.

Opera cake  ($4.95)is a French type of cake made with layers of almond sponge cake (known as "Joconde" in French, roh roh roh), soaked in coffee syrupe and layered with ganache and coffee buttercream. Lastly, the cake is covered ina chocolate glaze. Opera Cafe garnished their namesake cake with little crunch chocolate balls and a decorative chocolate tile that seemed to pretty to eat.

Very nice this looked...

and delicious it was as well.

The chocolate assortment included a chocolate cream filled eclair, a chocolate tart, some sort of chocolate and coffee cake, (I don't remember the one in the upper right corner), and a curiously looking pistachio cake (the one with the green ball on top) with a chocolate filling.

We liked the exotic assortments more. It was nice of the server to give us different kinds.  I was just expecting to get two of the exact same kind (exotic).

These little cakes are a damn PITA to cut up by the way, haha.

It was awesome to have such a selection and getting three assortments for $10 (instead of $21 if they had been the regular price)! Score!

Of course, I have to include a pop culture reference to the word "Opera". For the record, I am not an "opera" music fan, unless you count the classic Bugs Bunny cartoon, "What's Opera, Doc!" featuring Bugs Bunny in drag:

"Oh Broomhilda...you're so wuvvwee!"

"Yes I know it...I can't help it!"

The word "opera" also leads to me to one of Queen's greatest albums,"A Night at the Opera", released in 1975.

Casual Queen fans might remember it as the album that contained the hit single, "Bohemian Rhapsody" (featured prominently in "Wayne's World"), but I know it as the album with one of my favorite songs in the world, "You're My Best Friend" (penned by bassist John Deacon), which I've loved since I was a child...

I liked knowing that the song was written for his wife! Awwww....

The song was also put to good use at the very end of "Shaun of the Dead", where Sean's best friend is a zombie and they play video games together in the backyard shed!

Whoever titled this youTube video has grammar issues. It's "You're" not "YOUR"!!!!!!  Hello! Contractions are in order!!!
