Return to Ra-Ka-De-Ka Thai Kitchen

Last Friday, we had an appointment at the hospital and decided to have dinner nearby before the appointment...

It had been several years since our last visit and although I couldn't find the coupon, we went anyways since TC was craving her favorite...

which longtime readers already probably know.

On the counter were flyers advertising their new items...

Bert wanted the spicy noodles and I ended up getting the curry fried rice with chicken.

Guess what TC got?

Business here was brisk with lots of people coming in to pick up their takeout orders. The staff was pretty efficient and seemed to be comprised of college age girls (mostly Caucasian). I think I saw only one Asian working the kitchen that night, not that you have to be Asian to pull off cooking Thai food.

Our generous entrees:

Bert's spicy noodles with chicken which had a tiny kick to it (he ordered a 3 or 4 on the spicy scale).

I really love the wide and flat rice noodles. I just don't know how to cook them properly though. Boo.

As expected, TC's Pad Thai with, surprisingly enough, Tofu. Lately she's been into tofu and it was a nice change of "protein" for her since she normally gets chicken.

The noodles were flavorful and had a nice chew to them.

Lastly, I didn't think that my fried rice would be this MUCH.  Whoa. This was the WHOLE plate.

I barely made a dent in this and ended up picking at TC and Bert's plates. They didn't want any of mine so the curry fried rice leftovers were enjoyed for the next two days by me alone. I liked the cucumber chutney it was served with but thought that the tiny container was too small of a portion. I also liked the inclusion of yellow raisins in this dish, giving it a bit of sweetness. Next time (if there is one), I will not order a fried rice dish. This portion is meant to be shared rather than for one person to finish. I mean, holy $#%@, that's a lot of rice!

Previous visit to Ra-Ka-De-Ka Thai Kitchen:
October 2011

As much as I wanted to stop at the nearby Sunshine Donuts to see if they had blueberry donut holes, we were all pretty tired after the appointment and just wanted to get home. I wasn't sure if they were still open either.  Cathy tried to entice me with the magical lure of Mary's donuts just seven miles away, but it was not to be that evening...

Hi C - The food was okay here but my fave Thai place is Sab e Lee in Santee.

I took Jake here as an "intro" to Thai food but we didn't like it all that much. The flavors were not really enough to make it impressive - it's just fast food to me and it's just "okay". I'd rather go somewhere else for Thai food!
