Influx Cafe, Golden Hill

While our lunch was pretty substantial at Kafe Sobaka with the snatchy waitress, we managed to pace ourselves and save some room for something sweet at a cafe farther west on Broadway...

where MFH snagged prime parking right in front...(a metered space though, $#%@!)

Influx is on the northwest corner of Broadway and 20th and from what I remembered, was supposed to have a nice selection of baked goods including cupcakes.

I guess I didn't get the memo that they no longer serve cupcakes. Their selection of pastries was also kind of small...

They were mostly muffins and scones on the top shelf and below, bar things - bread pudding, brownies, along with pecan and lemon bars.

It's pretty light and airy inside with clean lines and sparse furniture. Most of the spots were taken by people on their laptops (free wi-fi here).

We got the last two spots left. It kind of sucked having to sit so closely next to other people. I like having a bit of cushion for my personal space, eh.

Our drinks and dessert that we shared:

MFH had chamomile tea while I had their version of an iced mocha with probably only five or six ice cubes. Hmmmph.

The pecan bar ($3.75) was quite thick, with a short bread base and topped with candied and chocolate covered pecans.

It was actually quite good, but in small doses, like one or two bites (since it was so sweet).

Our meter only had 35 minutes but we were out before it expired. We wanted to beat the Friday afternoon traffic.

Who else went to this location of Influx (there is another one in Little Italy, yo):

Mary went here back in 2010 when they still offered cupcakes. But now we all know they no longer have 'em so don't bother looking for them.

My iced mocha, while nice and smooth tasting was pedestrian compared to the one I had at Cafe Moto. This one was watery and thin and ending up being lukewarm rather fast. It was barely iced. So no repeat for me. Nice folks working here though and an interesting mix of people in this part of town too.

NO MORE CUPCAKES! WHAT! Well that's just super sad. They were the #1 cupcake on my red velvet cupcakes post. Hmmmm - guess that means I'll just have to redo that one!
