Return to Pappalecco

After the lackluster early lunch, we headed up to Little Italy...

enjoying the unseasonably warm weather and clear skies. Meanwhile I was enjoying not having to drive...

We were able to find some meterfree and untimed parking at the outskirts of Little Italy. After walking a few blocks down, we stopped here for some gelato...

My sister and kids hadn't been here before and it was more than a year since Bert, TC and I visited.

A few of their signature flavors were out like their namesake, the Pappalecco. I tried a sample of the blood orange but it was a little too sour for my liking.

I was hoping I would find the fresh pear flavor again but it was nowhere to be seen. The best pear gelato I've had was from New York's Il Laboratio del Gelato with Pappelecco's version a close second.

Initially only three of us got gelato, then nephew #1 changed his mind later.

My fondente with nocciola (extra dark chocolate and hazelnut with nuts respectively):

TC's Stracciatella and Banana:

Nephew #3 and my sis shared this one - Vanilla with Nutella.

Our gelatos were already dripping in the sun so I took these shots pretty quickly...

The fourth gelato cup held vanilla and Stracciatella as well.  I loved my dark chocolate flavor and would totally get this again. Now if they could only resurrect that pear flavor!

Like our previous visits, we could have two flavors for the small. I recall during my first visit when they were new, they used the flower petal plastic gelato bowls. Now it seems those have been ditched and disposable paper cups are now used. The flirty Italian guys weren't there either, haha.

Previous visits to Pappalecco:
Opera Cafe and Pappalecco - July 2007 while out with TORC
Pappalecco Revisited - August 2007, while out with Bert
"Pappa Likes" - September 2012

Here is a video I found about Pappalecco advertising an event called Ferragosot from last summer but most importantly, showing a few glimpses of how fresh fruit gelato is made. Check out :59...

So that's how they make those pretty swirls in the pan!

Our gelatos were a refreshing treat on such a hot day.  To walk off some calories, we went down to the main drag on India Street , but ironically ended up having a few more sweets at a Little Italy mainstay...

I almost cried when I read "enjoying the unseasonably warm weather". We're in the midst of the polar vortex and it's been the coldest I've ever experienced! Brrrrr! Water pipes froze, no heat...hot dang! Like a scene from Disney's FROZEN! Not kidding! Our pipes have icicles on them.

This said, it's never too cold for gelato.

hi C - We keep thinking about you guys and hope that you are all okay. That Arctic freeze is really taking a toll on the East Coast and Canada. Gosh!

As for "Frozen", TC and Bert saw it last weekend and liked it! :)
