Random stuff from the past few months

Another compendium of odds and ends from the past couple of months...

It took me about a year to finish the first damn book. I think I'm doing better with the second one, "Clash of Kings". Just a few more chapter to go then I can start on the third book and be caught up with the seasons for HBO's "Game of Thrones"!

I must confess, I "cheated" and read ahead on certain chapters in Book 3. Let's put it this way...for Season 3 and Book 3, Ygritte is TOTALLY wrong when she says, "You know nothing Jon Snow...."!

A photo TC took of a dentist's sign, somewhere along Palm Avenue near I.B.  I don't know about you, but when I see that teddy bear, he looks a bit evil, doesn't he? Just look at that grin and his empty sould less yes. He looks like he wants to kill you in your sleep with that toothbrush!

Plaza Donuts on the corner of 16th and Highland. They finally changed their signage and their paint trim is no longer lavender. I haven't tried donuts here but may just do so one of these days. This place has been here forever!

Diagonally across from Plaza Donuts is the now defunct George's Wonderful World of Cakes on Highland (next to the 7-11). I love their colorful sign. According to what I've read, they closed down a while ago but while they were still in business, it was quite the popular place to go to get cakes.

While still heading south on Highland, I saw this old restaurant, El Juan Mexican Cafe. It's hard to see but underneath the green sombrero painted on the side of the building, it states, "Since 1946"!

Everytime I pass by, their parking lot is always empty, but they are still in business. Hmm?

More recently, a local church organization was selling donuts, churros, and these....

Bibingka Royale!  I just had to get one - it was $2.50 each. This is special bibingka cooked on a banana leaf and baked with cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. The foil packet contained freshly grated coconut (the lady was generous and gave me two coconut packets!).

This is almost as good as my mom's. The texture also reminded me of the corn bread we had at Two Brothers Cafe in Portland (a Balkan restaurant)

The circuit board shirt I bought for Bert from Graffiti Beach in South Park.

Captain Morgan near one ofthe BobAr liquor stores (the one in IB)...Ahoy there matey! I need some coke with my Captain Morgan!

See that guy?  That is the Blue Light Special dude! He is usually out there on the weekends on H Street (near K-Mart, or shall I say, the Big K?). He was dancing and jumping around and encouraging drivers to honk their horns.

I tell ya, that dude must love his job because everytime I see him, he is in motion! He never stops moving and seems to be pretty cheerful! Even Cathy of Mmm-Yoso spotted him once during one of her trips down South.

While at Seafood City, I saw these phone cards. Look at the one at the bottom right...It says "Kalesa Gangnam Style" (a 'kalesa' is a horse drawn carriage in the Philippines). You can also see a cartoon drawing of PSY. That guy's 15 minutes have been up months ago! Aaargh! (pulls hair and gnashes teeth)

A fishcale necklace I bought for $7.99 at Forever 21 a few months ago. The earrings are old (from Banana Republic factory store) - an open filigree with crystal drop.

Another item bought after church - a maple bacon bar, sold by the local Boy Scout troop (from Yum Yum donuts).

What used to be Tacos Toro Bravo on Third Ave in Chula Vista (which also USED to be Tacos el Poblano) is now Mariscos los Cabos. Third reincarnation in about a year.

The Georgia Street Bridge in Hillcrest - a parabolic hinged-rib arch bridge. Apparently, it needs seismic retrofitting. I haven't driven or walked across it yet, but I want to.

During Spring Break a few months ago, we did another Trolley Adventure with TC and KDD. We were walking to Seaport Village and saw this sign at the Kansas City Barbeque:

If you can't see it or read it clearly, the sign has the logo of "Top Gun" (the movie) - "Sleazy bar scene filmed here". Remember that? When Meg Ryan (pre-Trout lips) shouted, "Take me to bed or lose me forever!" to Anthony "Goose" Edwards (Pre-E.R. but post-"Revenge of the Nerds" when he still had hair).

And because I'm so thorough (i.e. "anal"), here's that scene right here!

A vintage size 18 (boys' size)  yellow plaid shirt bought from Frock You Vintage on Park Blvd. last month.

View of the Pacific Ocean from the Crystal Pier in PB...

The fruit salad my dad made for Easter...

On clearance at Fresh & Easy for $1! The candies were larger than regular sized m&m's. I liked the color variations and yes, these did taste good!

More candy...

These weren't too bad! They also had a bit of a crunch to them.

I'm still trying to figure out my next posts...too many to choose from. Spring Break. Canada. Food. Fashion. The Record Store Crawl (which reminds me, I should get back to that while it's still fresh in m mind)...

In other news, crazy weather. It was in the 90's one day, then the 60's yesterday and it sprinkled slightly today.

Ooh, ten more minutes til the East Coast showing of Game of Thrones Season Three Episode 6! It's not in HD, but I'm tempted to watch it instead of waiting 'til 9 pm!!!!

I love the randomness of this post, CC! I, too, am a GoT fan and I just borrowed the first book from my friend. I am all caught up on the season (except last night's episode) and I am addicted!!!!
