You can find Teresita's there (home of the Chamango), as well as El Ranchero (known for their birria), Mc D's, and more neighborhood favorites, such as this sushi place up on the hill past KFC...
I've posted on Tomodachi before. Their food isn't gourmet quality. It's just basic bento box food. It's not even that traditional compared to the places on Convoy.

We hadn't been here in a while and I was surprised to see Pho offered on their menu. Really now? Phamtastic? Why Pham and not Phan?

Their sushi are your basics plus rolls that would make most purists cringe. But I happen to like these kinds of rolls. They are all named after family members and friend's. The owner's wife, Pami even has a roll named after her.

More of their specialty rolls, most of which involved cream cheese, spicy something or crunchy something or other.

This post is a combination of three separate visits. This first set is from our first visit to Mad Lab with Tatonka. These were his fried gyozas. Basic.

I ordered the New Roll which had shrimp tempura and crab meat within and seared scallops on top. I thought the scallops were a bit bland.

I don't remember the name of this roll, but there were various thin slices of fish topped with panko crumbs and a spicy mayo.

My salmon skin roll. They used to put shaved bonito flakes on this. Guess they stopped.

Tatonka ordered one of the specialty baked rolls. I don't remember the name of it, but this was really good. I like when they bake the rolls.

More of that scallop topped New Roll.

The second set was when we took my parents and MIL/BIL for dinner after TC's dance recital. In the past, we've gone to either Pho Hiep or Pho Convoy, but decided that this place was easier for everyone since it was local and nearby ("convenient") for the parents.

I wanted to try a different roll this time...

My mom's steamed shio mai. Bland.

An assortment of rolls that we all shared (me, TC, and Bert). Philly roll in the back for TC, Pamie's Roll for me and the special California roll for TC.

This was my TC's other roll, her favorite, the Crunchy House.

My mom actually ordered the "Phamtastic" Pho. The broth tasted weak to me, but she liked it.

Bert's Bento with sesame chicken with fried seafood, rice, and salad. Again, basic.

The last visit was after our second visit to Mad Lab with Tatonka. We brought along TC for dinner (not to the brewery). As you can see, a variety of rolls shared by all.

Spicy crab:

Crunchy house:

Salmon skin:

I think this was the Volcano roll which featured jalapenos on each slice.

The rolls were so good after having had the beer flights. Our third visit was the worst in terms of having to wait. We got there during the dinner rush and were lucky to snag a table (Tatonka got there ahead of us). Service was really slow that evening. The other times we've gone, we've always had fast service but I totally understand that our timing was kind of bad that evening.
If we go to Mad Lab again with Tatonka (or even without), we'll be hitting up this neighborhood fave once again for our sushi fix.
What's your favorite neighborhood sushi joint?
