Papa Luna's, Thrift Trader and Gay Slang

After our foray in Groovy Records where we found some good deals, we thought we would TRY to check out M-Theory in Mission Hills. As we approached  the record store located on Washington St., we saw a longass line that snaked out the door and spilled onto the sidewalk and beyond. We were like, "Uh....NO!". There was no way we were going to deal with that, so luckily, that meant it was time to have a break for actual sustenance since our sugar high from the donuts had already worn off.

Which led us to PB on a weekend. But I have a secret for ya'...instead of trying to find parking on Garnet on a Saturday, drive around the back alley and find the small lot behind Sugar & Scribe Bakery. Free parking!

I figured this would be a good place to stop...

since it was literally next to three other places I wanted us to hit up...

That was pretty convenient. I like consolidating visits like that.

I like most of the offerings here, made even better now that you can order them FRIED, not baked.

Our empanada snacks, which all came with the chimichurri sauce. I was a bit bummed our choices didn't have the Sriracha cream sauce though. If you look at my old posts (linked at the end), you can see their code "key" for the letters on the empanadas (it magically tells you what flavor they are).

This was my Camarones y Tocino (shrimp and pork), one of my favorites here. Served piping-burn-your-tongue-off Hot!

My other empanada was the Thai Butternut Squash which we shared. I didn't like this as much as TC did our last visit, but I thought a vegetarian choice would be nice.

Cy got their flavor of the month, the Moussaka empanada. Surprisingly, given my dislike of lamb, I tried a tiny bit of it just to see if it would change my mind about lamb. It did not and lamb is still not a friend to Canine Cologne's taste buds.

Something about the smell of lamb makes me want to gag. I'm such a wimp, but I suppose it's an acquired taste.

Situated a few doors down from Papa Luna's was another outpost of Thrift Trader (I'd been to their location in North Park, a sister store, as well as the Two Dollar Thrill in OB)...

In order to get the "deal" (4 for $20), we were able to find two things each. Cy got two t-shirts and I found these gingham checked shirts from the men's section. They were really cute and since they were by H&M, which sizes their clothing on the waaaaay smaller side. Therefore, the men's "small" was actually just right for me.

I thought the red, white, and blue one would look cool for the summer with a tank top underneath. When I brought it home, TC really liked the shirts, so I told her we could share them, when in reality, they became her shirts in the end!

The shirts reminded her of the shirts worn by Jack and Finn Harries, these two impossibly cute British twins that became famous on youTube (I had to look this up!!!).

Here they are with fellow youTuber Tyler Oakley learning Gay Slang. I actually saw this video prior to getting the shirts. It happened to be on my sidebar when I was browsing youtube so I clicked on it and found it so funny! Tyler Oakley is American while the twins are British.

Hey, I knew what a "Twink" and a "Bear" was!  But....I did not know that "kiki" was gay slang! That's a vulgar term for the vadge in Filipino! Ha ha, but here it means "slumber party". Okay, I'll have to ask my GBF's about THAT one!  Astroboi, is that true about "kiki"? I KNOW you're reading this! I'll confirm it with Mr. TJ and my bear friend! I also noticed that the screen in the background has UK boyband, One Direction (the group that  TC is currently obsessed with; I suppose the Biebs is now kicked under the rug!) as the screensaver! If I didn't have a tween, I wouldn't even know this! That's my excuse!

Oh myyyyyy...that whole "kiki" thing is hilarious!

I think I need to get you to try a lamb burger. I had those in London for the first time, and they are fantastic! They have an Australian place in Carlsbad that serves lamb burgers...maybe we can venture out there sometime?

The Mister wore plaids all the time in college and his nickname (given to him by other ROTC friends) was 'Hayseed'. Papa Luna's is a nice place. Very fresh.
