Canada Day 7: Levis - Breakfast at Chez Cora

So far, our week in Canada had been quite fun, traveling via minivan with my friend C and her family.  After last night's awesome dinner at Le Cochon Dingue, we crashed for the night at a local hotel in Levis. We then met up with C's blogfriend, NM and her youngest for breakfast at a popular breakfast chain, Chez Cora.

This was just down the road from our hotel and while it was a bit overcast in the morning, it would soon burn off and turn into a scorching hot day...

But first, let's have some breakfast, shall we?

Chez Cora is a chain of casual restaurants, specializing in breakfast. It was established in 1987 by Cora Tsouflidou in Montreal. There are more than 150 restaurants throughout Canada (all provinces).

As we walked in, we were "glared" at by a few of the customers. Apparently, we were quite the sight, a group of "Asians" (Filipino Americans and one Chinese/Filipina/Trinidadian and one Caucasian dude, and two other whitefolk. It's not very racially diverse here and the main language spoken was French. Luckily for us, C is a fluent speaker, having grown up in Montreal. Her friend NM also speaks French, but learned it after she married a Frenchman.

The sunny interior is very bright and happy. The decor seemed a little "juvenile" to me. I read online tha tmany of the drawings were done by Cora and based on dishes that her customers wanted her to make.

In fact, you can see Cora herself on the menu covers (Click here to see the offerings)...

You can also see a "young" Cora on the placemat!

The decor, while colorful, seemed a bit "slapped on", like it was decorated by second grader. Sorry Canadians out there reading this that like Cora's.

I was fascinated by the individual sized jams and spreads. I was excited by the caramel!

Our table got a basket of bread - described as "white" or "brown".

This was C's daughter's Nutella and Banana crepe! That's the way to start off the day! I wish I had what she had!

I don't remember who this belonged to (perhaps it was C's), but it was bacon with an assortment of fruit and cream.

This was NM's plate - I don't even know what she had underneath all that fruit! Look at those fruity architectural wonders though!

This was FarmerJohn's plate - a very manly and hearty breakfast. Potatoes and bacon, eggs, sausage, and ham plus, you guessed it....fruit!  Oh, and maple syrup, because they sure do love their maple syrup here!

I believe this was TC's plate - potatoes, bacon, sunnyside up eggs, pancakes (with blueberries? or chocolate chips? I can't tell), and fruit. She really liked those runny yolks!

I ordered a trio of "sides" - sausage, scrambled eggs, and potatoes only. Pretty simple, and only one measly piece of fruit for me, ha ha.

This was Bert's crepe which he remembered as having some sort of cheese with ham in it. His breakfast was pretty healthy which he enjoyed. Man, they really go all the way with their fruit here, even the creamer pitcher is garnished with a strawberry! So cute!

TC was nice enough to give me a small piece of her bacon plus a few more potatoes that she couldn't finish.

Everyone enjoyed the start of their day here at Cora's. Aside from the unfriendly looks we got at the beginning (which we also experienced at a few other places while making pit stops at random towns), our server was quite nice and patient with us.

This commercial, for some wierd reason, doesn't have any sound but I included it so you could see their cool fruit garnishes!

Our next stop would be a quick one at NM's house before heading over to Les Chutes de las Chaudieres...
