But something was missing...
and that turned out to be the awning with the logo. I almost thought we missed the placed but no, it was still here.

Donut Friend - Donuts Done Differently proclaims the wall (which off course has that saying cut off at the bottom).

Our main reason here was because I wanted to pick up TC's "favorite donut" and also a few for me, Bert and Cathy.

I get a kick out of their music/band themed donut names.

As pretty as the Green Teagan and Sarah donut was, I didn't get it since I don't really like the flavor of green tea. Cathy had her eye on the Custard Front Drive.

You can see the menu in all of its glory here:

Our take home treats.

Cathy's donut ended up being the Custard Front Drive, which was basically a chocolate glazed Bavarian creme filled donut.
Doesn't this trio look so pretty?

Polar Berry Club - Underneath the berries was a basil leaf. This was for Bert.

TC's favorite, Strawberry So Far - This time it was not "heart shaped" and there were freeze dried strawberries on top as well as a fresh strawberry.

Yo La Mango - This mango glazed donut had a little kick from the cayenne pepper and a citrus twist with the lime zest.

So here are the bands which inspired the names of the donuts above:
Polar Bear Club:
The Story So Far ("What You Don't See", their 2nd album, released 2013):
Yo La Tengo (their whole album "May I Sing With Me", 1992/Matador Records):
This was a band that came out in the late 80's; in the early 90's they were on the same record label as Pizzicato Five (Matador Records, based in New York). I didn't really listen to them back then but listening to them now, I think this was a pretty cool album.
And lastly, Christie Front Drive (their self titled EP, 1994)
I normally do this for my initial post for a place, but for whatever reason, didn't include any reviews or articles, so here they are:
Cadry's Kitchen and Fellowship of the Vegetable, both from January 2014
plus "Just opened - Donut Friend" Red Tri, Oct. 2013
Articles:
"Now Open, Donut Friend in Highland Park" LAWeekly, September 2013
"Learning alongside Donut Friend's Mark Trombino in Highland Park" Eater LA, Sept. 2014
Previous visit to Donut Friend:
May 2016 (but visited during Presidents' Weekend; this post links Darlene's post from 2013)
Up next lunch in Arcadia..

Love the name of the donuts here - I still need to try this place out. The donuts look so yummy!
This place is pretty good. They were ahead of the hipster/gourmet trend. If you to Highland Park, check out Galco's Soda store as well.
