Filipino Community Bldg, Santa Barbara

My same friend recommended that I check out this place of historical interest...

located at 425 State St. is a building with this sign...

It reads, "Filipino Community Bldg" and has been such since 1955. Currently the space is being rented out by Zen Yai Thai restaurant.

When searching online for any information about this, I saw this:

Sorry for my "drive by" photos, but they were taken after we had late breakfast and went back to our inn to keep the food before going back to State Street.  I found it interesting that the sign has remained over the decades but yet there was hardly any information to be found online.

Here is another photo I found online (credit is below):

The building has been here for a long time. According to my friend who used to work at UCSB, the Filipino Community Association owns the building and Zen Yai rents the space from them (a quick search shows that Zen Yai opened in 2001).

The trust certificate for the building, dated February 11, 1955. It was signed by  Sereno Talaugon of Carpinteria, a member of the Filipino Association of Santa Barbara. You can see a copy of it at this link from the Online Archive of California.

The trust agreement (also from February 11, 1955) can be seen here, also from the  Online Archive of California.

I couldn't find any historical background on the association other than these documents and the undated photo of the men on top of the building. The only thing I found was their  fb page  but it doesn't seem to be maintained; the last entry was 7 months ago and there was no response to the guest's query. I may need to ask my friend, the retired librarian about this. She would probably know the background and history. If I do find out, I will update this post with more information.
