This is the southwest corner of Home Ave & Fairmont Blvd.
Across the street is this mural, as you make a left onto Fairmont.

Workers were busy patching up cracks and hopefully fixing up the corner. This was the scenic route to get to our breakfast destination...
We could have gone on University Ave but our trek up to Fairmont and 43rd was much more interesting. I'd seen this restaurant before and figured it was time to give it a try.

We got there earlier than expected (7:40 am; we thought they would be open earlier); one of the owners said they would be ready in ten minutes so we killed time by hanging out at a mini park across the street (that post is forthcoming). They have no posted hours online and I just assumed the would be open early early. Anyhow, we waited 'til 8 before returning; we were the first customers that morning, followed by a man and his young son. Before we left at the end of the house, the restaurant was full.

It's no frills in here with 70's wood paneling. Each table had a vase of artificial flowers. The owners are Asian (Korean I think, judging from what bits I heard while two men were conversing behind the counter). Asides from them, we were the only Filipinos; everyone else was Hispanic. Our waitress was really nice and efficient.

One thing we noticed was their low prices...like way low. Of course, we were not expecting gourmet quality food and usually hipster breakfast/brunch food is not what I crave. Instead, I like typical American breakfast food, preferably in hole in the wall joints, like this one.

What? No eggs benedict dishes or fusion blah di blah?
Bert's coffee and cream. The first of three cups.

Our basic breakfasts all under $7.

Eggs fried over hard. Whose dish could this be? Well, mine of course because yolky eggs = barf. Served with hash browns and my choice of two sausage patties (thin, though) and toast (sourdough)

TC's Veggie omelet with hash browns and toast. The omelette was quite packed, filled with broccoli, mushrooms, green peppers, onions and cheese. This was enough for two meals; leftovers were taken home. I had a few bites and thought it was pretty good.

Bert's corned beef hash with hash browns, over sunny side up eggs and wheat bread.

I really liked the crust on his hash browns, Bert not so much. Yeah this probably came from a can, but it was still delicious. For the most part, we enjoyed our breakfast here. The hash browns could have been crispier, but they were good nonetheless. Pricewise, this was even lower prices than Manna in Chula Vista. The breakfasts were filling and if you get an omelette, the portion is quite generous.

In searching for links for this post, I was surprised this place even had a facebook page. Many posts are in Spanish too, of customers enjoying breakfast (desayuno) with their family.
Coffee was next on our morning agenda...
