Thyme for Lunch Cafe + the new 85C in Mira Mesa

Last week, TC and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Mary for lunch.

She chose Thyme for Lunch cafe, located in a business park off Miramar Road. The complex also houses the interestingly named Duck Foot Brewing Company.

Parking is in this lot which gets quite crowded during the lunching hour...

Thyme for lunch is kind of hidden, but just look for the building number.

We kept it simple for lunch.

California burrito for TC.

Turkey sandwich for Mary. She didn't realize it came with pasta salad. Because she didn't know, she ordered the Caesar salad as well, which was served first.

I had what they called the Paraiso salad - Spinach with grilled chicken, strawberries, candied pecans guacamole dressing (on the side) and jack cheese (subbed out for disgusting goat).

This was a pretty refreshing salad with a nice mix of flavors and textures. The cheese was a bit disappointing because it was just a tiny sprinkling. I didn't realize it would be so sparse but I guess that was a good thing. I'm not too fond of too much cheese on my salad. It was great seeing Mary again especially since she had a lot of cool stories to tell about her recent trip to Spokane (head over to her blog to read her full fledged posts of her trip).

The week prior, we were supposed to meet up for lunch but had to postpone it due to her work obligations. Since TC and I were already up in the Mira Mesa area, we had checked out the new 85C Bakery (near Target on Mira Mesa Blvd.).

Thank goodness it wasn't crowded or anything like it was on their first day (but that's to be expected, eh). Since this was a weekday morning, no lines at all. It's set up like all of their bakeries. Baked goods to the right. Fancy refrigerated cakes in the middle near the registers. Order drinks at a separate register. If you've been to any 85C, then you know the drill.

I got a mix of old favorites plus a new one.  Two hot dog breads, one tuna danish (it sounds gross but it's actually quite good!), the squid ink garlic bread, the striped mocha walnut coffee bread (for Bert) and the chocolate cookie bread (you can see this in better detail in Kirbie's post, linked at the end).

We went again the same day we met up with Mary (the rescheduled lunch date a week later).

Again, no line, yay!

One of these was new to me (the almond one) - TC chose the cream cheese and sugar dotted bun, the chose the teriyaki chicken bread, the one with almonds was a milk bun (inside was an interesting powdery milk/cheese filling), the brown one was the mocha mochi (for Bert) and the small puff pastry swirl had cheese and jalapeno nestled in its buttery layers.

My vacation is nearing its end. What I enjoy the most about my breaks is getting to spend time with my daughter trying out new places to eat and also meeting up with good friends.
