TJOB #3 & 2

There are three locations of TJ Oyster Bar...

Recently I was at #3 and #2...

TC and I were out during the tail end of the Thanksgiving break. It had rained earlier as well hence the wet ground.  They added a new mural on the opposite wall.

Looks pretty good but, I have some other suggestions...

To refresh your memory, Dave from the awesome flick, "Penguins of Madagascar"?:

I thought it was funny that Dave is voiced by THE John Malkovich.

Or how about Oswald? He is voiced by Fred Savage (aka Kevin Arnold from "Wonder Years")

A little too cute.

Even Ringo got in on the action:

Back to lunch - TC's fish burrito combo (with salad and rice) plus my oyster taco and Dave pulpo tostada:

Chock full of tender octopus. Her fish burrito was standard. The two oysters in my taco pretty meaty and larger looking due to the fried batter coating.  All were good.

Recently, at location #2, where my former student (Class of 1997 yo') took me out to lunch. He was recently at my school as a career guest speaker. Below, his michelada. Now if I wasn't on the clock...

Her ordered for all of us (he was accompanied by a colleague), starting off with something I'd always been interested in but never ordered, the Smoked Tuna Fries (check out Kirbie's post from July 2015 featuring this item and more)

These were pretty good and it's a good thing there were three of us. It's more of a "sharing dish" unless you really love smoked tuna, which has a good flavor but can be overpowering after awhile.

He also ordered a half dozen oysters (two of each, three different kinds). The server spoke too fast when I asked what kinds they were but I believe one was Kumamoto). Sauces served were cocktail, a vinegary sauce with chopped onions (maybe a mingonette?) and horseradish.

Them fries...

A trio of tacos was also ordered - in the back, Mantaray, and in the front, more of that Smoked Tuna plus shrimp diablo with cheese.

I've had the mantaray before and it's a bit on the fishy side. Very strong.

Smoked tuna...

I really enjoyed the shrimp diablo, which as you can see, the shrimps were plentiful. There was a tiny kick but not too spicy that you would be having issues later unless you have a sensitive stomach.

I was so happy not only to have shared a great meal, but also to have spent some time with my former student who is now a successful video game designer.  It's great to know that he is enjoying his career and was able to share his expertise with out students.

Who else went to TJOB
Here is Cathy's recent post on TJOB #3 & #2
November 2, 2016 + "Fried Skins - Chicharrones of the land, air and sea" Nov. 2015

Previous visit to TJOB #2:
August 2015 (I know I've been there more recently, but I can't find that post easily, so this will have to suffice)

Previous visit to TJOB #3:
February 2016

Of the three locations, I like the second one the best since it's the biggest location. The prices are slighty higher than the original but I do like that there is an abundance of seating. The third location is also nice but can get pretty crowded since it is in the same complex as Starbucks, Lolita's and a FedEx.  Bert and TC need to try those smoked tuna fries.  Soon, ha ha.
