we headed down to Carlsbad for our second hit of caffeine, but also for another main reason...
On the west facing wall of the 7-11 near the Encinitas arch is yet another Prince mural. As an added bonus, the wall also includes David Bowie who passed away January 11 last year.

Here is the view from a side alley...

Like the Prince mural in Normal Heights, cars were blocking the full effect of the mural. It would have been nice to see this work of art unobstructed.

The artist for this mural, as well as for the other murals in this same alleyway is local artist CJ Troxell. I thought he did a great job memorializing two late great musical icons.

When looking for images of this mural online, I saw that the artist posted updates on his IG. Looks like they peeled the paint on the pink portion to reveal the underlying warning signs. Hard to see here but on Prince's white shirt and down near the jagged edge at the bottom is graffiti. It's a shame that people feel they have to deface public art.

Of the three Prince murals I visited these past few weeks, I like the mural in Normal Heights the best. I liked how "dappled" it looks. This was a close second.
Now, longtime readers of the blog may remember this old post,"Murals at the Redwood Laundrymat" which featured an AWESOME Prince mural by street artist Hasler Shark. Sadly, that mural has since been painted over. I'm so glad I stopped and took photos that day three years ago.
Previous new Prince mural posts as of December 2016:

I hope that other artists put up more Prince murals in 2017. It would be an adventure to seek them out. I've already scoped out another Prince/Bowie mural online (it's in Silver Lake on the Lyric Hyperion Theatre in L.A.) as well as a Prince mural in Clarion Alley in SF's Mission District and and countless more Prince tribute murals nationwide.
