Two years later...OB Tide Pools

At the foot of these streets is the OB Pier...

We wanted to take advantage of the awesome weather that day. TC had been wanting to go back to the tide pools so this was a perfect time to do so...

The view up Newport Ave, one of the main drags in OB...

Under the OB pier, the longest pier on the West Coast at 1971 feet, just under 1/3 of a mile long.

It was around 12:45'ish the the tide didn't look that low to me!

The waves were quite strong that day too!

Lots of neat sea life...

The shell bits are stuck on an anemone whose tentacles are curled in...

There were also lots of tiny hermit crabs crawling about the tide pools...

At one point, the waves rushed in the flooded the little channels. Bert and TC were stuck on one of the rocks and they waited for it to subside. It wasn't overly high, but it was a bit unexpected. TC had fun collecting sea shells while I alternately hid in the shade and in the sun (when I got too cold). The tide was creeping up slowly and we, okay I wanted dessert so we started to head out.

A very cool convertible car we saw parked on Abbott. This was a Dodge Polara which was manufactured from 1957 to 1975.

Based on the tail lights, this would be a 1967 Dodge Polara...I looked it up!

Previous visits to the OB Tide Pools back in January 2011:

First visit and the second one, a few days later. These visits were during the three day weekend just like this one. And it seemed like history repeated itself since it was very hot those days, in the high 70's! Two years ago it was in the 80's I believe.

Up next...dessert in PB!

I don't think I've been to the tide pools in OB. We usually go to the ones in PB at Tourmaline. Though the last few times we went it looked especially wet and rocky and I think I was wearing flip flops for some reason... silly me. I love tide pools though!

Hi Mary - I've got to check out the tidepools in PB then. We haven't seen those yet. We're so lucky to live in SD!
