Russian Elegant Food...and return to An Xuyen Bakery

Our attempt to visit Mike's Movie Madness was a bust. It was still too early in the morning. KDB needed to get some stuff done for work so he suggested that we drop him off and pick him up in  a hours. We had some to kill so I asked Bert if we could check out this Russian place we passed by on the way to KDB's:

Elegant? I noticed that there were quite a few ethnic eateries and bakeries along this particular stretch of road...

Russian Elegant Food happened to be on SE Foster Road, which also boasts its own food pod, "Carts on Foster". Anyhow, seeing those Cyrillic characters made me curious to try something new.

I wasn't sure what to expect...

As I walked in, there was a small section of baked goods on the right with the middle aisles containing various canned and jarred imported items, such as beets, pickled cabbage, pate spreads, soups, and crackers. One wall also had fresh baked bread, but in this case, it was rather sparse. Other than another gentleman in the store, I didn't see anyone else. Perhaps the workers were in the back or something. I wasn't too impressed with their baked pastries (turnovers and thumbprint type cookies with jam), so I ended up leaving empy handed! What? I know, but I didn't really see anything that I wanted to try, even out of curiosity. This was a first for me. I guess I was hoping that they would have some prepared hot foods or something, like pelmeni or pierogies.

With plenty of free time on our hands, we ventured down the street a little more and came upon aplace we had visited a few days earlier, An Xuyen Bakery...

I got another bag of the mini french bread rolls (not pictured) and picked up the PB Parfait bun for TC. Bert and I shared the Pate Chaud, wanting something warm on this cold and rainy morning.

Our next destination would be a garden located near Reed College...

So sad there weren't any fresh-baked goods. I've always wondered about that Russian bakery whenever I drove past.
