ABC Music Humpday Videos 2.0 - "V" is for...

This week's entry is one of these (it's a noun):

Here's one of the earliest known examples from the 70's:

and one from the 80's (which includes one person from the first example):

Ooh now....still wondering?

Here's a few more clues and hopefully you will get my drift:

A few more examples of what I'm looking for with these bands:

And with this one...do any of the faces look familiar?

And the longwinded answer is:

When you have all these famous people from other bands in a group, this is known as a "Super Group".  All of the bands shown are some of the more well known supergroups. Most often, super groups are not permanent. They are usually a side project that last maybe one or two, of if they're lucky, three albums.

This particular supergroup was comprised of awesome musicians with rockin' pedigrees. This band is none other than Velvet Revolver which had THREE members of one of my fave bands,  Guns 'n Roses : Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum (guitarist, bassist, and drummer), along with Dave Kushner of Wasted Youth, and lead singer Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots. A perfect line up if there ever was one!

Their debut album,Contraband (2004):

The cover for the single:

"Fall to Pieces" was the second hit single from "Contraband" (the first was "Slither"):

One of the best supergroups of all time, besides the Foo Fighters, Temple of the Dog, and A Perfect Circle!

Previous entries (I messed up and had TWO of them!):
"V" is for Van Halen (of course)
and yes,
"V" is for Val Kilmer (from his acting and singing debut in the 80's spy spoof/comedy"Top Secret"!)

*Notes on the earlier Supergroups:
Asia included: Steve Wetton from King Crimson, two members of Yes (Steve Howe and Geoff Downes), and Carl Palmer (from Emerson, Lake & Palmer)
Power Station included: Robert Palmer, two members of Duran Duran (John and Andy Taylor), and Chic drummer Tony Thompson
Chickenfoot included: Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony of Van Halen (singer and bassist), virtuoso axeman Joe Satriani, and drummer Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Tinted Windows included: Taylor Hansen from Hansen (Yes, of "Mmm Bop" fame), drummer Bun E. Carlos from Cheap Trick, James Iha guitarist from Smashing Pumpkins, and bassist Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne.
Traveling Wilburys included: folk legend Bob Dylan, crooner Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne of Electric  Light Orchestra, former Beatle George Harrison, and rocker Tom Petty of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Next week: "W"!
