Return to King of Nablus Sweets

A few weeks ago D and I went out to get the sweets and desserts for KD's birthday tea party...

It was also an excuse to go here again...

I'd been dreaming of those flaky and sweet baklava ever since our first visit...

I really like that fake palm tree right in the middle of the bakery. While we were waiting, a friendly gentleman began speaking to D in Spanish. Never mind that she wasn't a native Spanish speaker (and neither was the gentleman). He asked us if we were waiting, then said his wife was picking out desserts and such. D can speak Spanish pretty well so she and the man had a bit of a conversation. I said a few pleasantries in Spanish and we both met the wife and son (a five year old) once she was done getting her order. Even though it took a while, it was a nice diversion before we had our turn. I believe the man was of Middle Eastern descent (as he spoke Arabic to someone else in the bakery), but his wife was Mexican.

This was called "Angelhair" - just look at those pistachios in the middle....

Another type of rolled and sliced baklava...

The baklava trays closest to the cash register are filled with cream or cream cheese. This orange one had a bit of spongy texture. The lady gave us a sample but we passed on getting it because we didn't want to get anything too "wet". I was looking for something easy to pick up and eat for the party.

When Bert bought the one pound tray for $7 last time, it had about 21 or 22 pieces. This was the Baklava Mix 1/4 sheet for $26. Good gawd, look at the assortment of baklava in there! This tray was huuuuuuge! D was the one who got this and we both figured that we'd be splitting all that baklava between the four of us after the next day...My favorites were the coiled up looking pieces (3rd and 4th rows from the left) and the one in the middle (the rolled up one). I also liked what they called the "mini-roses" (or what I called the "tacos")...

I think I could get seriously addicted to these. If it weren't for the threat of "middle aged spread" and "muffin-topitis",  I'd be here everyday if I could. So, I'll just have to relegate this to being a once in a while treat!
