Fun 4 All

Last weekend  TC wanted to go miniature golfing. For those of you that grew up in the South Bay, then this sign should be very familiar to you, even if you've never been here before...

(Actually this is a "new" sign - the original Fun 4 All sign was red and just said "Fun 4 All" in bold letters and had no dorky drawingss on it like this one!)

Yes, it's the ghetto fabulous Fun 4 All located on the side of the 5 freeway between J and L Street...

I recall going here for a classmate's birthday party back in 1979 and liked it so much that I had my 10th birthday party here. The candy that I bought at the arcade was some giant version of sweet tarts but much better. It seemed so much bigger back then and now, as an adult, it looks pretty small and run down. But no matter, our daughter is not very picky. It doesn't take much to make her happy.

Despite looking like the younger beat down brother of "Boomer's" in Clairemont (also located off the side of a freeway), this place is much more affordable and there are less lines for the attractions. Who needs a ferris wheel right? Fun 4 All just has the miniature golf, bumper boats, batting cages, and go-cart rides, along with an arcade and a few air hockey tables. Because it was a "holiday", the two for one specials on Monday did not apply here, dammit.

Can you see the cars driving by? Sometimes, I wonder if cars have been hit by errant flying golf balls. I'm sure people have tried pegging cars for kicks here.

There was a really slow family ahead of us. You're not supposed to have more than four people playing at once but they had six. WTF. So we got tired of waiting and blatantly skipped over the 2nd hole (where they were holding up our game) and then ripped through the course in about thirty minutes before returning to the 2nd hole.

Bert showing off his putting skillz.  TC even had a hole in one. I, on the other hand, massacred Hole #4 (ten or more strokes) before TC put my out of my misery and put the ball in for me, ha ha.

In addition to rusty dinosaurs, they also had dolphins...

The last hole!

These were the painted bathroom doors...Ahoy there mateys!

The arcade was too full so Bert and TC played a game of air hocky...

while I sat underneath the shade as the trolley rumbled past Industrial Blvd. We were one skip, hop and a jump away from the El Pescador taco truck in the Toys R Us parking lot, but instead of having lunch there....

we headed over to another place (post is forthcoming) for one last time...

As I mentioned earlier, it doesn't take much for TC to be amused. We're not big into those huge amusement parks like Disneyland, Sea World or Legoland. Most of the stuff we do for fun is either free or doesn't cost an arm or a leg. It was pretty fun trying to get the ball in some of those holes. They had one where the ball went in and then popped out below since there were two levels. Another hole had wavy bumps so it was quite difficult to get it in there.

Whenever I miniature golf (which is hardly ever), I think of Bob Barker's appearancein "Happy Gilmore":

"The Price is Wrong bitch!"

If you are so inclined, here are the reviews from yelp and the official website.

As Chevy Chase would say, "Be the Ball...":

"Freeze gopher!"

Up next, lunch at a "soon to be closed" venue.

How fun! Of course, I remember Fun 4 All although I've only gone here once -- on my prom night!

Looks like they changed the sign but still looks like a lot of fun for kids.
