ABC Music Humpday Videos 2.0 - "H" is for...

Before he became an actor known for being the hillbilly strangler in "Copycat",

or the voice of the beatnik dude (Dean McCoppin, junkyard owner) in the animated film, "Iron Giant",

this musical artist gained popularity in the late 80's, following his success with the big band soundtrack of "When Harry Met Sally"...

You should know who this is by now...

None other than Harry Connick, Jr. Here he is performing "We are in Love":

From the album of the same name,"We are in Love" (1990), this was a big hit for Connick, crossing over the jazz and pop charts. Back in 1991, I was still finishing up my studies at State. I was into Sandman and Clive Barker. Musically, I was into Soundgarden, Nirvana (yes, grunge!), and Alice in Chains as well as guitar gods Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson. I wasn't really into Connick who I viewed as a wanna be Sinatre-esque crooner. After seeing him perform on several late night shows and finding out that he was really a gifted and talented musician, I changed my tune.

Bert was into big band jazz and R 'n B. I remember Bert really liking this particular album and this song when we were still "boyfriend and girlfriend" (gawd, that felt so wierd even typing that!). In fact, the main reason I chose Connick for this ABC Music Humpday Video post is because we used this song for our wedding photo slide show (which was on video, as in VHS tape). Back then, in the dinosaur years (mid 90's), some weddings had video slide shows for entertainment, my children. None of this "edited digitally until the last minute" newfangled stuff (say this in a cranky old man voice). We had our video done by our friend The Drummer who also put together our wedding video. This song played during the photo montage of our baby photos up to our college photos were flashing on the screen to our wedding guests. Awwww..
That's my fond memory of this song...

The other song to rival this is The Taquito's song choice for their wedding slide show video later that same year. They used my favorite Paul McCartney and Wings song, "Silly Love Songs"...

My previous post - "H" is for Helmet

Next week is "I" and I have no clue yet what group I'm going to post for that one!

Happy Leap Year too!

I also like Big Band Jazz. Don't listen to it much anymore tho. I like Harry Connick Jr. I even went to his concert here back in the early 1990's, which the Mister still gives me grief for. When I think of Sinatra wannabe, Michael Buble comes to mind. Harry wins hands down in as far as talent between the two. Although I do like some of Buble's songs.

Happy Leap Year Day!

Ilike Harry's voice better than Buble's but he's not so bad. Plus Harry is a musician and Buble isn't (as far as I know).
