Mall eats...

So after our movie, the girls went to buy their lunches. TC at Panda Express and her friend at Subway. I, on the other hand saw this new (to me) eatery...

complete with an exposed oven....

I didn't really want to have Sbarro, or Hot Dog on a Stick or the other run of the mill places at Plaza Bonita Mall, so I thought I'd try this new place, Stone Oven.

They offered different types of sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads, all made right in front of you as you wait. I had my eye on one of the sandwiches already...

although this seemed like a good deal as well...

The sandwich won out. Below - the Santa Fe Hot Ham Sandwich which came with bacon, avocado, chipotle mayo, cheddar cheese, and onion crisps. The bread was baked in front of me, cut in half, brushed lightly with the condiments and assembled quite nicely (meats, toppings, etc). After the girl put the cheese on top, she put it into another oven tomelt the cheese. The flatbread they used was really light and I loved how it was toasted and the edges of the sandwiches a bit chewy. All sandwiches come with a side (potato salad, chips or green salad). My salad came with house dressing on the side.

Loved the flavors in this sandwich! If we ever came back here to watch a movie, I'd eat here again. I liked that this place offered a few healthy alternatives other than the fried crap at the other establishments.

As we walked our calories off (well, for me at least, ha ha) while window shopping, I asked the girls if they wanted dessert. Ice cream was what they wanted, so we headed to Baskin Robbins which has a kiosk in the middle of the mall on the bottom floor, away from the food court. Kind of a wierd place if you ask me.

I skipped out on dessert but YNG had the chocolate chip while TC had the mint chip in cups.

I remember when this used to be my favorite flavor as a kid. Sometimes, as a treat,  we'd go to Baskin Robbins at the 32nd Street Navy Exchange.

As we left, I saw this sign...hmmmm.

It was so wierd for me being back at this particulat mall. I used to work there eons ago while still in college. Yo, $3.25 an hour at Monkey Wards was the going rate for minimum wage back in 1987. Then, my measly pay  was upped to $5.00 an hour when I switched over to May Company (yes, I'm dating myself since that store no longer exists!).

Built in 1980, the mall has undergone a huge makeover, most recently in 2008 when they renovated the south side of the mall.  Added were the new AMC theatres, the new food court, and many new stores. There's now a Target there, an H and M, and even Nordstrom Rack. But even with all those amenities, I usually avoid the mall like the plague. I hate the crowds and have horrible memories of parking in their lots during sale days. Plus, there are always students who spot me and I'd rather go about my weekend incognito!

Have any of you ever worked at a mall? Food service? Retail? Curious minds want to know!

Never worked in food service but I worked for Macy's the summer before I went off to college and I worked at an amusement park for one summer in high school. That's about as retail as I got.

I worked as a dishwasher at the Mira Mesa Moose Lodge and I worked at the dining hall in college (there was a food fight once.... I had to clean it up!) but never worked at the mall. Plaza Bonita was my "go-to" mall when I was pre-teen/teenager. I loved that place back then!
