Post Awards Night drinks and tapas at Romesco's

Senior Awards night done!

Time to unwind and revel in the last few weeks of the school year...

The whole department went, which was fun.  Here are some of the drinks we enjoyed that evening - Mr. TJ's vodkw with blue cheese stuffed olives (this seems pretty gross to me, but he really likes it; it's not on the menu but our server said he would have it made) and my Pepinotini (martini with cucumber juice rimmed with Tajin), which was so refreshing!

The other coworkers had either margaritas, a beer and Pepinotinis as well.

These were supposed to be Gobernador tacos. These were the appetizer portion.  Both La Ley and I didn't like these that much since the shrimp filling seemed too "soft" and minced up rather than whole pieces of shrimp.

La Ley's Tacos de Huitlacoche - you can't see the filling but the Huitlacoche is basically a black fungus that grows on corn, considered a delicacy.  Sometimes it is called corn truffle but it's really a black mold. It has an earthy taste.

My coworker's Saverio's baby spinach salad with strawberries, jamaica (hibiscus flowers), pine nuts, Gorgonzola, Mission figs crostini and raspberry vinaigrette.

It looked so wonderful (except I would swap out the blue cheese)....sweet, salty, crunchy and savory.

Another colleague's dish - Cazuelita de lengua en pipian (tongue in peanut based sauce):

La Ley's tacos de fideo (spaghetti):

Two of us ordered the Gambas al Romesco (shrimp with Romesco sauce and fries)...We love that wonderful sauce with the fries soak up so well.

Our waiter (the same older gentleman from last year, who this year was more on point) gave La Ley a plate of their famous Caesar salad, made from a fifty year old recipe.  KD was here recently with her husband, to celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary; their Caesar salad was prepared tableside which was very impressive.

My colleague's fried calamari...

Another colleague's "Orejas del Mar" with tostadas.  "Oreja" means "ear"; these were slices of an abalone type creature.  This was quite interesting as I'd never seen this before.

She also shared this dish with a colleague, the Fonduta with chorizo (a mixture of melted Havarti and Mozzarella cheeses)...

Mr. TJ got his go-to dish, the Cazuelita de Costillas de res (beef short rib) served with side condiments and tortillas.

This particular evening was also the birthday of one of our colleagues. The waitstaff brought her a birthday flat topped with buneuelo crumbles (cinnamony sugar crunchy goodness). The flan was thicker and firmer than other flans I've had. I actually liked this texture since it was more firm and very smooth.

It was  the perfect end to a very long day...a full day of work plus the awards night followed by a nice time shared with my colleagues.

Previous visit:
Last year!

In other news, Romesco's will be expanding to Little Italy and taking over Bracero (read about it here and here, hot off the press).  Our waiter was telling us about it and that he would be working there a few days a week. They soft open the first week of June which is perfect since I'll be on vacation already...a future visit is in order.

Hi Lynn
That's right, they opened in Little Italy. I hope the new location does well. Looking forward to your future post (hint, hint). :)
