Pho Hiep Grill Chateau + Rita's

Ah, the glory that is Fall Break...we are so $%#@ lucky in San Diego where it's 75+ degrees and sunny and beautiful almost every day.

This is "Fall" for San Diego and no one is wearing heavy sweaters, coats or scarves...

TC's friend Sherlock was spending the day with us and I took the girls out to lunch...

over at Pho Hiep Grill & Chateau in Eastlake.

TC had the bun with beef while her friend who was new to Vietnamese food got the com tam with chicken. I got my usual, the banh xeo. Not seen were the fresh spring rolls because I'm assuming you already know what that looks like if you've read my blog before.

The girls liked their food and took the leftovers home. My banh xeo had a nice and crisp exterior and lots of shrimp and pork within. I like that they give so many herbs and vegetables on the plate (lettuce, pickled carrot and radish, flat leaf chives, purple perilla and mint). I always feel like I'm eating quite healthy when I order this dish.

Dessert was also local, over at Rita's of Bonita (although it's really in east Chula Vista)...

Their new Fall flavor, which I'm sure my pumpkin loving friends would enjoy...

Our gelati - Sherlock's dulce de leche, TC's root beer and my gelati with mocha (yes, finally, once again!) and the vanilla/chocolate custard twist.

Excellent for such a hot hot day...

Previous visit to PHG&C:
September 2013 when a former student took me out for lunch. I know I've been here more recently but I can't seem to find the post, so this will have to suffice, eh.

All I gotta say is...

Coupons are awesome.

Period.

More coupon adventures to come thanks to this book and the Get1Free website.

I just had my first experience with Ritas (in Rancho Penasquitos). Sis was raving about it so we finally tried it out. I'm not sure I'm as crazy about Ritas as most people but I thought it was alright. I love the pumpkin theme right now - have you tried any pumpkin coffee? That's my new kick for October. Thanks for the tip on the Ritas coupon!

Hi Faye - Rita's is alrite once in a while but not every day. I'd get sick of it. I have not tried pumpkin coffee. I actually don't like the taste of pumpkin and of course, with fall now in season, everything is pumpkin flavored or scented. i mean everything, good gosh.

hope you are able to utilize coupons for Rita's (and other establishments) thru Get1Free! :)

The Chateau has fancy plates and a beautiful view! We are so used to the 'original' location in Linda Vista with the cracked tabletops and the waitress who told us 'you no want that' the first time we went there...Still haven't made it to 'our' Rita's, but do want frozen custard or ice or something refreshing during this heat wave...

I like this location better than the one by Telegraph/805. This has more menu options, like the banh xeo.

Haha, "you no want". a waitress did that to me at Buga when I tried to order some mysterious noodle dish.
