to celebrate her belated birthday, I took her to brunch at the newly expanded Hanna's Gourmet...

I actually didn't realize they expanded until I went online. Our choices were either Nate's, Cafe 21 or Hanna's and I'm glad that MFH decided for us to go here...
It is much bigger (depth-wise) now. The interior space is now twice as big and the counter has been pushed back. For some reason I though they expanded to the space next door but they just got "deeper". As you can see, many folks were enjoying brunch that morning. As soon as a spot was emptied, more people took their place...
Hanna's is known for featuring a different world cuisine every week. This particular week Indonesian cuisine was featured. As great as the offerings sounded, we stuck with just a salad and sandwich because we wanted to eat light and save some room for dessert.

We both ordered coffees (mine was iced; this was pre-cream and sugar)...

We shared our two entrees, the roasted vegetable sandwich with walnut spread and the cranberry pear salad with added salmon (as you can see, the dreaded blue cheese is on the side), and citrus vinaigrette.

We loved both of our choices, which were pretty healthy. The salmon was added so we could have some protein; it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. As for the sandwich, I ended up deconstructing mine and just eating the inner part of the bread that had the walnut spread on it. The roasted red pepper was delicious along with the zuchhini and eggplant.
Their shaded outer courtyard was nice and cool despite the horrendously hot weather we experienced last weekend.

Of course, we made sure to save some room for dessert, which turned out to be Hammond's. The idea of ice cream flights appealed to MFH. I noticed they now had a wall of ice cream related art work, some quite cute and quirky (like the one with the white cats).

We both got two flights of three.

My set, on the left included: Ube, Mango Lychee Sorbet and Chocolate Orange (a flavor I hadn't seen before). MFH's flight included Lemongrass sorbet, Ginger cream and PB and Guava Jelly.

Hipster succulents...

MFH really enjoyed her ginger and lemon grass mini cones. I was excited to see ube, but still prefer the violently violaceous hue of the Magnolia brand. I loved all of my flavors. The flight trio is manageable. I remember getting six the first visit because I was so excited by the prospect of all of the flavors, but six is really a lot for one person unless you are sharing. Bert and TC still prefer individual scoops rather than mini flight tasters.

One thing I almost forgot to mention was that Hanna herself was there that morning of our brunch. She was checking up on her customers and when she stopped by at our table, we both told her how much we enjoyed our meal. She is such a genuinely kind and caring lady which translates into the detail and care she puts into her food. The service here was and has always been top notch and I am looking forward to coming to Hanna's again...
