My mom's 75th

Earlier this evening we celebrated my mom's birthday...

She was so happy that all of us were there, including all seven grandkids...

My mom is not one to go out to restaurants. Instead, she prefers all of us over at "the house" (the one we grew up in since 1977) and also prefers making the food. She is pretty much Type A (hmmm, I guess I got that from her!) and while she fusses over many things, means well, and would rather make food that she likes instead of ordering from a menu.

This being a Filipino birthday, we had to have pancit, so here it is for the umpteenth time, my mom's pancit bihon.

Not seen in this photo was the ginormous metal pot with the REST of the pancit!

The whole spread - kale salad (homegrown from the parents' backyard), lumpia, pinakbet (without bagoong since my mom is trying to avoid overly salty foods), shrimp with peas and jackstraw mushrooms, chicken curry with coconut milk and the pancit waaaaaay in the back.

My mom hasn't made this in a while, but we love it, her curry chicken with coconut milk...

In the backyard, my dad was manning the Weber grill.  These beef skewers (marinated with pineapple juice, soy sauce and Jufran sauce) were practically attacked by the kids.

I had a little bit of everything. If you look closely near the skewer, you can see the purple spotted lima bean (homegrown) from the pinakbet.

The cake was from the Navy Exchange. I was going to buy the cake from Hans and Harry but my dad pre-empted me the day before by getting this marble cake....

which was enjoyed with a selection of ice creams. The kids (including TC) went for the Birthday Blast flavor...

I gravitated more towards Rocky Road because I love the texture from the marshmallows and almonds. My parents had a cool setup with two scoopers (instead of just one) and a water filled canister to dip the scoopers between scoops. Nifty.

75 years is a long time and I really hope that both of my parents enjoy many more birthdays to come...

It's so nice you have a lot of family close by. You get to have apart a month at least, then no 'experimenting' with food for Thanksgiving- everyone knows what works and what doesn't. Your mom is so lucky.
