H-Mart - Irvine

I don't know about you, but I love going to ethnic grocery stores.

I'd only been to the Super H-Mart in Niles (near Chicago). It was like a foodie amusement park in there. Let's see if this H-Mart measures up...

First of all, it's not as humongous as the one in Niles. Now that place was so damn big! I guess that's why it was "Super"-sized. This placewas still fairly large, but not Cost-Co size large.

You had your fresh produce on the right along with various food vendors...

Canned, boxed and packaged stuff in the middle aisles and meat and seafood in the back with frozen/cold items at the far left. I had no idea that Koreans were into tuna!

I knew about the SPAM fixation though. When I fry up the low sodium kind, I usually splash a bit of teriyaki sauce on it, thus negating the low sodium content. It just tastes better that way!

Squid ready for the pickin'....

Different kinds of rice (black, brown and sweet brown)...

"Special" bowls for shaved ice desserts:

"So Good, Slurping is Allowed!"

More noodles...

I thought the name of this candy was funny except for the price which was $7.99! Wut?

Ha ha, the return of the Kancho snack!

To compare, here is my post on the Super H-Mart from our Chicago trip in 2009. You can learn more about what "kancho" means from that post.

Well, D and I bought some snacks as gifts as well as some drinks for later...

Now it was time to finally get out of Irvine and move on to the next leg of our eating trip...

Next stop, Little Saigon!

I like those Kancho cookies. Well I don't like how they taste (a little dry for me), but the cute faces are adorable
