Florencia's

Yay! Both TC and I are on Fall Break. That means two weeks of trying new places! In this case, using coupons from the Entertainment Value book fundraiser. I really like using those for the discounts for museums as well as restaurants (fast food as well as casual and fine dining). I'm a tightass, yeah I'm frugal like that.  So during our vacation, we will try to go to places using these savings passes...

It looks like it says "Forencia's" but there is a barely noticeable "l" after the "F". Well, we'd never been here before so hopefully this wouldn't be a bust. You know how going to a new place can sometimes be a crapshoot.,

Florencia's is near the corner of University and 30th and is a few doors away from Heaven Sent Desserts.

We got there around 11:45 and no one was there. So we walked all the way up to the counter and waited a minute. I then said, "Hello?" but the woman in the kitchen didn't hear me. She actually came out on her own after a minute and didn't seem welcoming. But maybe we got her on a bad day? I picked up one of the menus and told her we would be sitting outside.

There is a nice seating area out front with murals of Italian scenes.

I liked the mural near our table - a Venetian scene. So pretty! That's a city I'd love to visit one day! I'd like for us to ride on a gondola while the gondolier belts out some Queen ("Bohemian Rhapsody" would be PERFECT!), Soundgarden, Skidrow or Queensryche classics. I'm not kidding. Fk that blind Italian dude's schmaltz. I want some neo operatic rock/metal! Ha ha!  Romantic much?

We ordered from the regular menu not the lunch specials menu (the coupon does not cover lunch specials which was fine because I knew the regular entrees would have more food). Our salads were the same but TC's had her Caesar dressing on the side while mine was plain.

We loved this garlic bread! The slices were so generous and thick!

Our ravioli plates...

TC's dish - Underneath all that cheese and sauce were six large meat filled raviolis.
Of course this was way too much for a kid to finish. Half would end up being dinner! Yeah! No cooking tonight!

My ravioli was filled with spinach. I thought it was going to be mushroom but it was actually a cream mushroom sauce with roasted tomatoes and basil.

It was absolutely delicious! Again, saved the other half for dinner (Bert's).

Maybe the woman who served us was having an off day or maybe she just wasn't naturally warm. The service wasn't bad though; it was efficient but just not friendly.  The food on the other hand was really hearty and filling. I definitely can't complain about that.

I brought a cooler in the car so we could keep the leftovers chilled. We wanted a bit of dessert so off we went towards Mission Hills...
