This picture doesn't do it justice but that was a really brilliant field of orange flowers.

Last time Bert and I were in this area, we were celebrating our one year wedding anniversary (1996). We ended up driving through Solvang instead of stopping because it looked so damn boring (no offense to people that live there). Now, 15 years later and with a kid, we figured we'd give it another chance...
It was calming driving through miles and miles of country roads...

We knew we were close when we saw the Pea Soup Anderson's...

as well as the Hitching Post restaurant...

We also saw an Ostrich ranch!

Can you see them?

Welcome to Solvang...

This place reminds me of downtown Del Mar. Kind of old and crusty.

We ended up going here a little later for some pastries...

We had to peek in this place. The smells of chocolate assault you once you set foot in the door.

So many sweets to choose from...

Ooh, where's Lucy and Ethel?

Their peanut butter cup looked tempting (not as good as the one we had in Cayucos) but we got something else...

Bert chose a coffee truffle bar...

It was pretty sweet and rich...

TC liked seeing the horses...

We also went here before we left.

This was another shop we went to, the Solvang Trolley Ice Cream Parlor which had local homemade ice cream, McConnell's.

We got Hazelnut and Chocolate ice cream and TC had Raspberry and angerine sorbet.

We walked our calories off by going to the local townsquare (the grass area with the gazebo).

Bust of one of Denmark's favorite sons, fairy tale writer and poet, Hans Christian Anderson

It's the town's Centennial this year...

Ha ha...we took a photo of TC IN the shoe!

I wished we had tried one of these...

Sounds so good but we were already stuffed with our little bits and bites of the truffle bar, ice cream and pastries.

Here's that place again...

Cookies fromt he display case...

Our almond danish with almond paste within. Loved this! Diet be damned!

This was a chocolate dipped pistachio marzipan bar. Loved this as well!!

We were getting tired and wanted to head back, but first there was one more stop we had to see...

You didn't duck into the Hans Christian Andersen Museum? That's on my agenda when I hit up Solvang next week. :)
