I kept it really simple for that night...
This was a doctored up rotisserie chicken from Costco that I threw some Italian parsley on. I roasted potatoes separately then added them in with the chicken, along with steamed green beans as another side dish.

Our neighbor was kind enough to bring some sangria...

It was so refreshing with the fruit wine and cut up bits of pear, oranges, and nectarines...

Now for the cake...it was an 8" square made by Jenny of Jennywenny Cakes. Now it was originally plain. The Iron Man decorations were later added by yours truly as a request from Bert.

The cake was plain as he originally wanted it but then at the last minute, he wanted something on it. Party City didn't have anything "X-Men" or "The Avengers" (Bert's choice) so I had to call him and ask if he wanted "Iron Man", "Spider Man" or "Bat Man". Even the candle was Iron Man. Do you see his left arm? I didn't know that it broke in transit so TC "fixed" it by gluing it with blue gel icing. Hey, it worked! The other decos were cupcake toppers and were also affixed with gel icing. When I was buying the Iron Man decorations at the counter, I was chuckling inside because all this stuff was for my husband (who is 42) not for an 8 year old kid. Too bad they didn't have anything Luke Cage or Magneto.

The flavor was chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache. The filling was sea salt caramel with chocolate buttercream.

Just look at that filling...

Everyone loved the cake and Bert proclaimed it as the best cake he's ever had. He had a Snicker's Bar cake two years agodecorated with superhero logoes (also by Jenny) but said this was even better than that! I'm glad we have leftovers but to be honest with you, I don't think it'll last more than two days!

The cake looks great and sounds scrumptious! Loved the fix TC did. I wouldn't have even noticed.
hi c - the cake was so damn good! i just had a piece (afternoon snack)! i thought the 'fix' was funny. i was going to superglue it but the icing gel worked just fine.
