We were able to get in free since my Ninong smoothtalked the lady working in the giftshop. He used some line about being parishioners there (which they really are) and how they were entertaining out of town guests blah blah blah...
I'll be brief with the comments...
Every mission has one of these, a statue of Father Junipero Serra.

"Yes, I shall subjugate the Native Americans in the name of God"
Inside the chapel...

The picture doesn't do this justice, but the gold was really quite brilliant.

One of the glass walls in the museum area...

This guy was buried in the church, the former governor of California...Waaaaay before the former Governator)

This was Serra's tomb...

Here's the other end of the tomb...

Like some of the missions, there was an onsite cemetery.

The museum and exhibits were quite extensive and well preserved. I'd say this was on par with the Mission in Santa Barbara but on a smaller scale. Since we were there for free, I didn't feel too bad about skimming through most of the exhibits. My godparents had a lot of plans for us that day and we wanted to leave before it got too hot. It was supposed to bein the high 80's that day.
Below is Father Serra's room, which was a bare bones cell. What? No mattresses?

So that was that! Off we go now. Toodle loo. So long Spanish colonizers!
