I'd been wanting to try Burma Superstar since reading about it on Wandering Chopstick's blog...
Last time I met up with MFS was back in 2004 with my other former student (the salutatorian from c/o 2000; had dinner with him last Fall at Delancey's); we ate at the now defunct Last Supper Club in the Mission District. TC was only three years old at the time.Tonight, there was a tiny bit of a wait for our 7 pm reservation. Luckily, she and her BF were there ahead of us. We got in fairly quickly and were seated towards the front.

Cute smiling Buddha...

For a better look at their menu online, click here:

This was their famous Rainbow Salad (which was apparently featured on the Food Network; didn't know about this until researching it for this post) - which has 22 different ingredients such as four types of noodles, tamarind sauce, peanuts, dried shrimp, fried tofu, fried garlic, green papaya, red onions, to name a few.

Our server quickly went over the 22 different ingredients then started to mix it at our table...

Loved the flavors. Crunchy, sweet, sour, herbal, savory. This salad had it all.

Bert got the Llasa beer while TC got a mango drink.

Her BF got the Samusa soup. Samusas are described as Burmese raviolis filled with potato, spices, an curry. The soup was really flavorful with the silky raviolis and slippery noodles within.

Although we ordered separately, we shared all of our dishes family style. This was my entree - the Garlic Noodles with smoked duck. Loved the thin flat rice roodles and the sauce on this one!

She got a cold noodle dish with chicken...nice and refreshing.

The first three dishes...

TC must have been on a mango kick because she got the Mango Shrimp. The sauce was kind of sweetish. The shrimps were also substantial in size.

I don't remember the name of this (and I can't seem to find it on the online menu) but this was Bert's dish. A pot filled with Burmese style fried chicken with shrimp served over a bed of rice. The rice was really tasty because it soaked up the flavors from above. Delicious!

We ordered two desserts - these were not traditional dessert. It's reminded me of PF Chang's banana filled eggrolls. These were filled with banana and Nutella and served with a scoop of mango and coconut ice cream and fresh fruit.

The other dessert was battered and deep fried bananas also served with ice cream and fruit. The desserts weren't spectacular but were a nice way to end our Burmese dinner. The flavors and textures of the food was fantastic. We've had Burmese before (at Yoma Myamar in Monterey Park)
