Day 5 - From Scratch

I am just posting these in Geologic time, aren't it?  I hope it doesn't take me a year like my Canada posts!

After last night's "hairy" experience, we hoped for something better for breakfast. My godparents took us to another one of their favorite places (favorite meaning a place where there were a lot of "senior citizens") in Carmel, From Scratch, which is located in a shopping complex curiously named The Barnyard.

There goes my white Ninong wearing his golf cap and his Pebble Beach Hawaiian shirt...

It's that "casual old man" style. My dad dresses similarly. Some sort of printed Aloha shirt (like Tommy Bahama) and shorts. At least he's not wearing black socks with sandals and Jorts (jean shorts) pulled up past his nipples.

Since it was early morning still, this shopping complex was still pretty dead. It had a lot of high end boutiques and galleries and a few eateries.

According to my Ninang, this place is frequented mostly by locals (haha, Locals Only dude!). A lot of the artwork on the walls had scenes of Carmel and Pebble Beach. People are waaay into golf here.

Their menu...

A few of our entrees came with their famous cheese biscuits. These were pretty huge and I liked that you can see the cheddar pieces in the biscuit. I still like the ones from Red Lobster much better. I thought they were a bit dry though.

TC's Corned Beeh Hash with two eggs sunny side up and potatoes. Mmmm, corned beef  = yum.  Except for the egg yolks. Get ready for Gross Story Number Two!

Bert's Crab Omelette with potatoes (It was called the "Pebble Beach"). He said it was pretty "meaty" and filled with lots of real crab.

My Ninang got one of the breakfast  specials - Cinnamon French Toast.

Another one of the specials - here's my Ninong's Eggs Benedict over Sausage Patties and English Muffins with potatoes. I don't like Eggs Benedict because the sauce grosses me out. I'd eat this without the sauce though!

I got a veggie frittata with potatoes. I didn't care too much for the sauce but I did like the potatoes which were nicely seasoned. The portions were pretty hearty too - enough for two people. TC and I only ate half which is what a normal portion should have been like. No leftovers to go this time since we were going to the forest after this...

Our poor child. Remember her sunny side up eggs? Well, she cut a piece with her fork and noticed SOMETHING in it. Any clue as to what it might have been?

Bueller?

Anyone?

It was her second encounter with yet another hair follicle, this time, a WHITE one! Ugh!!!

I dissected the egg piece and isolated the hair. It was pretty gross having to deal with this again! TC lost her appetite pretty quickly. I contemplated bringing up the "hair" issue to the waitress, but I didn't want to cause a scene and embarass my godparents. Man, I had to bite my tongue on this one.

Fack!!!!!

The complex had a lot of beautiful flowers all over. I saw fuchsias, lavender, kangaroo paws, and daisies to name a few. I wish I knew the name of this one...

Who else at at From Scratch?

Cue sound of crickets.

I guess no one blogs these places, eh?

Wait! I spoke too soon! I found one from The Carmel Blog. The reviewer doesn't know how to use contractions (ex: "your" when it was supposed to be "you're"! Duh!). Yes, I am the grammar police.

Here are the reviews from yelp and a link to The Barnyard.

Now let's get outta this joint! Before heading to the redwoods, we paid a quick stop to the nearby Mission Carmel...
