Birthday crawl with Astroboi - Return to Sunshine Pancake House + The Lazy Hummingbird (El Cajon Blvd location)

I had been looking forward to my birthday date with Astroboi for weeks...

This past weekend took us to the outer edges of La Mesa...

at Sunshine Pancake House, where I had an online BOGO offer.   Not a specific birthday deal, but for this day it was, ha ha. He hadn't been before and I'd only been once.

So, yeah. We ate a a place that specializes in pancakes and this is what we got:

Sorry, no pancakes for this outing. We weren't feeling it.  Astroboi  got an avocado topped  Sunshine Omelet with a side of extra crisp hash browns (per his request). As for me, I got a basic American breakfast because I'm predictable like that. Eggs, link sausage, toast.

His omelet was huge! Lucky I brought my cooler for our leftovers.  Our servers were really nice and friendly.  The atmosphere was chill here. This is not a hipster place and I like it that way.

Just west of the eatery, and still on the same street was Lazy Hummingbird Coffee. This was theirother location (their original location is in OB; there is another spot owned by the same folks called The Nest, also in OB). Like the OB spot which shares space with another business, the one on El Cajon Blvd. shares space with a yoga studio. The coffee counter is on your immediate right. There is a small seating arrangement near the front and an outside table as well.

Many of their drinks were the same from the OB Lazy Hummingbird and The Nest. I recognized the gal working today from the Nest. She said her last day as a barista here would be tomorrow. She was moving on to a different venture and considering opening her own coffee shop.

Astroboi passed on drinks from here so it was just me getting my caffeine fix this morning. Below, my Canadian latte (maple syrup, a double shot of espresso and coconut milk).  I'm glad I ordered a double shot...Loved the flavors of this drink as well. Maple is always good.

On their window, I saw this poster for the upcoming SD Fair. Their new theme, "How Sweet It Is" will be fun.

I can just imagine all of the cakes/dessert entries for the fair going wild with this. I am looking forward to the fair exhibit as well...Summer can't come soon enough!

Astroboi was driving and we had lots of time this morning. We wanted to explore the new shops at UTC as well as a fairly new coffee place I'd read about...
