Brothers Fail...so Village Cafe

It was a rare morning, having TC with us on a Saturday..

Due to morning delays, we didn't get to our original breakfast destination until 10...

which was pretty late for me. Bert and I like going super early when there aren't any waits. There was a line out the door this morning and because of that, we drove off to find another place to have breakfast. I would have to use my birthday coupon for Brothers another time. Preferable before it expired.

There was a spot near Astroboi's place that I remembered. He hadn't been there before but was interested in hearing our opinion. I didn't know too much about Village Cafe going in and wanted to be "surprised" and not read any reviews before coming here.

Their decor was all over the place. Coffee was supplied via Dark Horse, which was promising. Sometimes eateries serving coffee don't do coffee all that well. I'm glad to say that it wasn't the case here.  I was happy to see that they offered traditional drinks along with the other kinds (flavored, fraps, etc).  Bert had a mocha with almond milk while I had the espresso con panna (double shot). The whip cream was housemade (I asked) with marshmallow cream in it to make it more "fluffy".  The guys who helped us were really nice, especially the one who seemed like he could have been the owner.

Served in real cups, by our request. An espresso con panna should be in a real cup anyways. This was one of the better versions I've had this year. This was a pleasant surprise.

Our breakfast - vegetarian bagel sandwich for TC, a sausage omelet for Bert (at $9, this was overpriced considering it was just an omelet with a fruit spear) and my breakfast sandwich ($8.50).  Their salsa was housemade and had a nice kick to it.  I noticed after we got home that TC's bagel wasn't charged. Oops on them.

I gave Bert my fruit spear. His omelet was tasty but not worth $9. TC enjoyed her vegetarian bagel but wasn't much of an arugula fan.  The avocado within made it taste better, ha ha. My sandwich had bacon, eggs, cheese and ham.  A bit on the oily side though. Tasted good but smallish.

I would go back for the coffee.  Their food was not bad but it was priced higher than I expected. I read on their site that they use kosher eggs and cheese and produce is "local". It's a cute neighborhood spot.
